25 killed in two road accidents
Anantapur
Nine school children and five teachers were killed in a major road accident near Odigepalli of Gorantla mandal on Saturday night. Thirty-two others including students and teachers were injured seriously. The students and teachers went on an excursion in a van and when they were returning, a lorry dashed it and killed the 14 persons on the spot. In Cuddapah eleven persons including a police constable, a Medical department employee and a BJP functionary were killed and three others sustained serious injuries when the jeep carrying them collide with an APSRTC bus near Mantapampalle in Vontimita mandal on Saturday.
Power cut days begins in Hyderabad

Faced with shortage caused by a sudden hike in demand, the AP Transco has imposed power cut up to four hours cover the rural areas in the State. For the time being cities and towns were exempted from the cut.
Commercial Complex in heart of Visakhapatnam city

Praja Spandana and Vintage Visakha have filed a public interest litigation petition in the AP High Court against the Government proposal to develop a commercial complex with an I-Max theatre in the 28 acre site vacated by the Central Prison in the heart of the city. Speaking with the presspersons, these two organisations have said that if the proposal materialized would result in further congestion of densely populate localities.
Call for peace talks with naxals

The CPI State Secretary Suravaram Sudhakar Reddy while participating a meet the press programme organized by the AP union of Working journalist, Karimnagar unit here at the Press Club on Saturday said the naxalite problem can only be solved through peace talks. He flayed the CM for stooping to level of the naxalites and making village level party cadres as scapegoats for gaining political mileage in elections.

There were two incidents of bomb attack in the district on Friday afternoon and night. Six persons including five Congress men were injured in one of the incidents by rival groups according to police.

Orphanage founder held on rape charge

The founder president of the Cavalry Children Home, Tagarapuvalsa, Mandavalli John Moses was apprehended by the Bhimunipatnam police on Saturday on charges of rape and harassment of inmates. This is the second such incident in the past two years that minors are sexually harrassed in Visakhapatnam.
