Tributes to Dr. Ambedkar
Hyderabad

The Chief Minister, YS Rajasekhara Reddy on Sunday paid glowing tributes to Dr BR Ambedkar on the eve of his death anniversary. In a message, Dr.Reddy said Ambedkar had come to occupy a place in the country's history by stint of had work with determination and nationalistic spirit. He said the best tribute to Ambedkar would be to dedicate oneself to follow his footsteps in creating an ideal and modern society.

SM Krishna visits Puttaparti
Anantapur

The Maharashtra Governor designate and former Chief Minister of Karnataka, SM Krishna on Sunday visited Puttaparti for taking the blessings of Sri Sathya Saibaba before taking the charge of the new assignment. He was accompanied by his family members and had a special darshan of Saibaba in Prashanti Nilayam.

'Chalo Delhi' rally

Hyderabad

Nearly nine hundred State Government employees will participate in the 'Chalo Parliament' rally to be organized on 7th December in response to a call given by the All India State Government Employees' Federation. The president of AP NGOs' Association president BV Subbarao will lead the delegation. The rally is being organized to press the demand for securing the right to go on strike he said on Sunday.

Alleged suicide attempt by an Italian

Anantapur

An Italian devotee of Satya Saibaba, G.Lucca allegedly attempted to suicide in Prashanti Nilayam at Puttaparti on Thursday night. He is said to be mentally unsound. He was admitted to the general hospital with head injuries on Friday. He was first admitted in the general ward and later shifted to prisoners' ward. The police registered an attempt to commit suicide case against him and said he was mentally ill.

Heavy Security at Tirumala

Tirumala

Security was beefed up at the Lord Venkateswara Temple on Sunday ahead of the Babri Masjid demolition day. Watch towers have been set up at vantage points apart from intensifying patrolling the 'mad' streets. Additional police forces were deployed at the temple's main entrance and other vital points. Two sniffer dog squads one each at the GNC Toll gate, Tirumala and another at Alipiri tollgate were pressed into action. Combing operations were conducted on both ghat roads and night patrolling intensified on the footpath leading to Tirumala.

Flash Strike at Kakinada Port

Kakinada

Port workers, led by the Hindustan Mazdoor Sangh affiliated union went on a flash strike on Sunday paralyzing loading and unloading operations. Unrest among the workers over sharing of work at the deepwater port, which reached the climax following the decision of shipping companies to make payment to workers directly eliminating the union's role led to the strike.
