The State Government on Sunday ordered detention of Madiga Reservation Porta Samithi followers proceedings to State Capital to participate in a meeting. Instructions were sent out by the top officials of the police to the Superintendents of Police not to allow MRPS workers to reach Hyderabad in view of law and order problems that may arise. On hearing this, MRPS leader Manda Krishna Maida sat on a dharna near the Ambedkar statue decrying the detention of his party cadre. Nearly 667 MRPS workers who where trying to board trains bound for Hyderabad to take part in the 'Chalo Assembly' programme were stopped and taken into custody by Khammam police. About 300 followers were arrested at Khammam railway station. In this context, the opposition parties, barring congress supported the MRPS on Monday by demanding a halt to the process of filling job vacancies in the Government until Parliament gave its permission for categorization of SCs.

Teachers' salary to be paid through treasuries

The Government has issued orders directing that the salaries of mandal and Zilla Parishad teachers be paid through treasuries with effect from April 2005, a GO issued by the Finance Department on December 10th, according to a press release issued by the Andhra Pradesh Progressive Recognized Teachers Union.

Four young men killed in an accident

Four young men lost their lives and two others were seriously injured when the truck in which they were traveling rammed into another truck parked on the Hyderabad Mumbai highway in the early hours of Monday. According to the Kohir Police, the stationary truck had trouble with its air locking system and the driver was trying to remove the vacuum when the other truck hit it from behind.

According to reports, the mishap occurred at Panagl. She was coming to Tirupati after offering prayers at Srikalahasti temple.
