Naxal leader Maddu Babu Rao surrenders before police
Srikakulam
A top People's War leader, Maddu Babu Rao has surrendered before the police. He was the secretary of the PW East Regional Committee, which is now known as Andhra Orissa Boarder Committee and the PW State Committee between 1995 to 2000. He carried a reward of Rs.10 lakhs on his head. The Superintendent of Police, Y.Nagi Reddy said on Friday that the naxal leader approached the police and he would be sent to hospital for treatment as he was said to be suffering from malaria.

Three B.Sc students drowned

The Birthday party of a degree student ended up in tragedy when he and two of his friends were drowned in Yarrkalva near Lakkavaram in West Godavari on Friday. According to Jangareddygudem DSP, Md.Sharief, the three students were studying B.Sc in a private degree college and were drowned while bathing.

A woman was allegedly killed on the charge that she was practicing sorcery. According to reports, the victim in Ayodhyanagar in Mortad mandal headquarters was dragged out of her house by three persons attacked with a pesle. She died on the spot.

Andhra Jyothi Editor surprises at his nomination

K.Ramachandra Murty, the editor of Andhra Jyothi expressed surprise over the news of his name included in the panel of observers in the talks between naxals and Government, he said 'he will not be acceptable to it owing to professional problems'. In a letter addressed to the Home Minister, he appealed to drop his name in the panel. No one from the Government had sought his consent before announcing his name, it would have saved embarrassment to him and the Minister.
By-elections for ZPTCs

Bye elections will be held on Saturday for ten Zilla Parishad Territorial Constituencies and 47 Mandal Parishad Territorial Constituencies. These vacancies were caused by resignations and the death of the representatives, including those who were killed by naxals.Seven of the ZPTC vacancies were a result of the incumbents resigning to their seats following their election to Assembly.
