Five killed in Krishna Pushakarams

Five persons were killed in the much publicized Krishna Pushakarams. Four persons were killed in a stampede and one drowned while 15 persons were injured. The stampede occurred on the narrow causeway leading to the apron when thousands of pilgrims forced their way down a ramp resulting in the collapse of a railing. The Chief Minister, YS.Rajasekhara Reddy called on the bereaved family and the injured persons at the Government Hospital.

The Chief Minister immediately transferred that he had transferred the District Collector, Commissioner of Police. In the place of the District Collector, T.Vijayakumar was appointed as the District Collector and the DIG of Eluru Range was made in-charge of the Commissioner of Police. The Chief Minister announced an ex gratia of Rs.2 lakhs each to the kith and kin and Rs.10, 000 to the injured
One man panel to investigate stampede at Krishna Pushkarams

The Chief Minister, YS.Rajasekhara Reddy on Saturday asked the opposition not to politicize the human tragedy, referring to the stampede near Prakasam barrage in which five people were killed on the first day of the Krishna Pushakarams. He said stern action will be taken on those responsible for the tragedy once the commission of Inquiry gives its report within a week.
Chief Secretary goes on leave

Claiming moral responsibility, in the tragic incident that occurred on the first day of Krishna Pushakarams, The Chief Secretary Mohan Kanda offered to go on leave He said that the incident had caused anguish and hence he wanted to proceed ton leaver. However, his request was rejected and he was asked to continue in office.
Agitation on peak in Andhra University

Suicide threats seem to yield the desired results on the Andhra University campus. After the science college students staying at the Vidya Hostel realized their demand to have a mess facility in their hostel by threatening to jump from the hostel roof some days ago, the research scholars also made the authorities concede their demand to restart the hostel mess, by resorting to a similar threat on Saturday morning.

The authorities promised to provide mess food from Sunday morning and the agitation ended. The JAC for Protection of Andhra University, which adopted various agitational methods during its months old struggle demanding the recall of the VC YC.Simhadri followed suit. Twelve leave vacancy workers and NMRs including four women, climbed the Terrance of the Central Administrative office building and threatened to jump from there. The tense situation was cooled down after an assurance from Visakhapatnam MLA II S.Rangaraju’s assurance in the university affairs.

An Assistant Engineer of the Genco, Srirama Ravindra Kumar was drowned while swimming in Puttamagandi reservoir on the inaugural day Krishna Pushakarams on Saturday.
Explosives seized by police

The Sadasivanagar police recovered 1300 gelatin sticks and 1000 detonators from one Venkata Rao in Uppalvai village on Saturday according to the Sub Inspector Lakshminarayana. The accused was illegally being transported these explosive items.
Free power for Single bulb houses shortly – hints Rosayya

The Minister for Finance K.Rosaiah on Saturday said the State Government would issue orders shortly for supply of free power to single bulb houses. At a function at Vijayarai in Pedavegi mandal of West Godavari, he said exercise was going on about modus operndi for implementation of the free supply.
