CM begins works to stop illegal power connections
Hyderabad
Addressing a press conference, the Chief Minister, YS.Rajasekhara Reddy ordered a crack down of unauthorized farm power connections numbering to 3.50 lakh to save power system from collapse due to overload.

He directed the concerned authorities to display the list of authorized power connections in their respective jurisdictions and serve a clear warning to farmers using power illegally to disconnect.

He said that from August 30th no bore well could be drilled in the State by any rig owner for household or agricultural purpose without prior permission of the competent authority as laid down in the AP Water, Land and Trees Act. The authorities at the State and district levels would be constituted before August 25th.
Farmers commit suicide
Karimnagar
Two farmers committed suicide in the Karimnagar district by consuming pesticide due to heavy debts according to reports.
TDP supporter hacked to death in Kurnool
Kurnool
A TDP supporter was found murdered at Daivamdinne village in Kurnool district on Sunday. According to reports, he was accused in a murder case. It is said that the enimity is the cause of the murder according to police.

DGP advises naxals not to go for illegal activities
Hyderabad
The Director General of Police on Sunday advised the People's War not to indulge in 'illegal' activities such as warning people, people's representatives besides abducting and releasing of employees which would disturb the peace and cause a sense of insecurity among the people according to a press release issued by the DGP.

He called on the naxal to carry on their political activity by moving without arms and not disturb public order.
YSR reviews hydel and thermal power projects
Hyderabad
The Chief Minister, YS.Rajasekhara Reddy on Sunday after reviewing the hydel and thermal power projects directed the APGenco to enhance the installed capacity by setting up projects at Ramagundam, Kothagudem, and Vemagiri gas based plant and Hyderabad.

He asked the official to take necessary steps to reduce generation cost by twenty percent. He also directed the Genco to take up gas linkage with GAIL as well as Reliance Industries.
Finance Minister praises Rotary Club International for the Pulse Polio campaign

The Minister for Finance, K.Rosaiah, on Sunday lauded the contribution of Rotary International for the campaign to eradicate polio by 2005. Inaugurating a pulse polio program conducted by the Rotary Club Hill View and the Rotary Couples Club at the Rural Health Centre in Simhachalam, he exuded confidence that polio would be eradicated completely by next year.
Boat capsize in Guntur
Guntur
Six members of a farm labourer's family were drowned in the Krishna at Amaravathi in Guntur district on Sunday when the fishing boat in which they were coming from an island to the river bank capsized. The boat is said to have a capacity to carry only two persons. Divers were searching for the bodies, but since water level had considerably risen at Dharanikota and Amaravathi following release of water from Nagarjunasagar, it was taking time.
