Government to setup panels for land distribution
Hyderabad
The Government is seriously thinking of constituting of committees/commission to go into the issue of surplus land distribution to the landless poor. After two hours discussions with the representatives of the CPI and CPI (M), the Chief Minister, YS.Rajasekhara Reddy in his office, the Revenue Minister, D.Prasadarao announced to the reporters on Monday that the Government will constitute committees/commission consisting of retired IAS officials well versed in this area. The panel would make recommendations for distribution of lands and ensure the implementation of these recommendations. He said, if necessary laws will be amended.
Union Minister for Railways assures Frequency of trains
Visakhapatnam
The Union Minister of State for Railways, R.Velu, has promised to increase the frequency of the weekly Visakhapatnam Chennai express in response to a plea made by the Tamil Kalai Mandram here. The change in the timing will also be considered to suit the needs of the customers.

CM backs plan on global meet

The Chief Minister, YS.Rajasekhara Reddy on Monday extended support to the Indian initiative to host the 34th International Geological Congress. In a press release ,he said that the meet would provide an opportunity to share India's scientific knowledge and expertise with international community in the area of earth sciences.
Power Grid gets ISO certification

The Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd., has been given three ISO:9001:2000 certificates by the National Quality Assurance, the UK. The certificates are the whole of southern region transmission system I, the regional test laboratory and Power Grid's gust house in Secunderabad. They were handed over to NR.Chanda, Executive Director, Power Grid Southern Region I on Monday by David Wood, International Operations Director.
Government considering naxals demands
Hyderabad
In a fresh round of talks with PW with a five member team for about three hours, the Government is considering the fresh demands on Monday. The Home Minister, K.Jana Reddy, told the team which included Gaddar, Varavarao and Kalyanaro that the Government would positively study the three main demands i.e., independent/judicial probe into the alleged Tadvai police 'covert' operation, an inquiry into the Green Tigers establishing the police link with it and withdrawal of the case against Varavarao and others .
AWARE Chairman gets award
Hyderabad
The President APJ.Abdul Kalam presented the 'Naitik Samman Award' given by the Gulzarilal Nanda Foundation to PKS.Madhavan, chairman of AWARE last week. It is one of the major NGOs operating in tribal areas in the State.
