Chandrababu Naidu papers filed in absentia

Hyderabad

Two voters from the Kuppam constituency Lakshmi a DWCRA group member and Syed Siraj representing the minorities filed one set of nomination papers each on behalf of Mr.Naidu.The Returning Officer. A bagful of coins said to be totaling Rs.5,000/- was handed over to the Returning Officer L.Murali. The Returning Officer and staff took a while counting the coins before accepting the nominations. Mr.Murali said Mr.Naidu's supporters and people in the constituency had collected a total of Rs.7.02 lakhs.Mr.Naidu drove down to the Criminal Courts Complex in Nampally and took oath before the Fifth Metropolitan Magistrate M.Gandhi under the Representation of People Act as the TDP nominee for the Kuppam Assembly seat.

36 new faces 36 ex-MLAs in Congress list

Hyderabad

The Congress list for second phase elections in AP released on Monday in a mix o old and new faces. Thirty six MLAs of the dissolved Assembly find place in the 117 names including the former CLP leader Dr.Y.S.Rajasekharareddy, Koneru Rangarao Chief Spokesperson of the party, Konijeti Rosaiah and former Minster Adala Prabhakara reddy who joined the party recently. New faces number 36. Eleven names of LS contestants also were released.

TDP leaders urge Bharanikana to withdraw

Visakhapatnam

TDP leaders and Backward Classes front on Monday urged the TDP urban district President Bharanikana Ramarao to withdraw his resignation and work for the success of the party in the elections. Talking to reporters here on Monday, the Deputy Mayor Malla Appalaraju said that the party had not accepted his resignation and the leaders and workers would like him to resume his post as the city unit president.

Rehaman to campaign for BJP in Visakhapatnam

Visakhapatnam

The Visakhapatnam Urban Development Authority Chairman S.A.Rehaman, who was upset over denial of nomination for Visakha I segment, will campaign actively for the BJP candidate K.Haribabu.Dr.Rehaman made this announcement at the coordination committee meeting of the TDP and the BJP held at a hotel in the city on Sunday.

National Maritime Day observed

Visakhapatnam

The Visakhapatnam Port Trust celebrated the 41st National Maritime Day on Monday with the Vice Chancellor of Andhra University Y.C.Simhadri as the Chief Guest. The Deputy Chairman of the VPT P.Tamil Vannan appreciated the employees for making the port as No.1 in the country and urged them to improve their performances further.

YSR for open debate

Dr.Y.S.Rajasekharareddy expressed his willingness to participate in the election eve U.S.Style debate proposed by the Lok Satta and said it could be held on April 25th between 10am and 6pm. In a letter to the Lok Satta National Convener Jayapraksh Narayan which was released to the press Mr. Reddy said he had already chalked out an elaborate programme of constituency wise campaigning from today for the first phase of elections commencing from April 20th and the campaign would go on till April 24th the last day for the second phase. In the light of prescheduled, the debate could be scheduled on April 25th. He welcomes the proposed debate between leaders of leading political parties saying that it was desirable as part of the ongoing democratic process. While thanking Mr.Reddy for agreeing to take part in the debate, Dr.Jayaprakash Narayan in a reply said that he had not received any word from the TDP chief and Chief Minister N.Chandrababunaidu, yet and that it would inform Dr.Reddy as soon as 'we hear from him'
