Dissidence rocks major parties

It was a day of hectic activity for rebels, dissenters and floor crossers in almost all major political as the names of more and more party candidates were announced for the coming elections on Sunday. Within a few hours of the TDP announcing its ninth list, party workers in Ananthapur town went berserk protesting against the high command's decision to allot ticket to K.M.Rehmatullah. The supporters of an aspirant, Salar Basha ransacked the office of a private cable operator and smashed the windscreens of some autorisckshaws.
Kurnool DCC office set on fire

Activists of the Congress party owing allegiance to the District Congress Committee president, Kotla Suryaprakasa Reddy set on fire the DCC office here on Sunday to protest against the denial of ticket to Mr.Reddy for the Kurnool Lok Sabha seat. The Congress office was like an inferno as furniture and records went up in flames. Even the personal room of Mr.Suryaprakasa Reddy was not spared by the irate activists
Political party for Brahmins mooted

'Brahmin Garjana', a meeting of Brahmin community members here on Sunday called for launching a political party for Brahmins. The meeting found Brahmins slipping into political oblivion and called for a 'reawakening' among them through political consciousness and unity. It expressed the confidence that Brahmins could become a force to reckon with politically in the country if they struck unity.
Muddu to continue in Congress

Putting speculation at rest, the PCC official spokesperson G.Muddukrishnamanaidu has asserted that he will continue in the Congress even as the TDP has sought to lure him to its fold at a press conference he convened on Sunday to end the suspense.
Srinivasulu resigns for CPI

The CPI State Secretariat member, P.Srinivasulu Naidu has resigned from the party citing unhappiness at not being nominated for the Chevella Assembly seat in a statement issued on Sunday.
Women Welfare Minister may join Congress

The Minister for Woman and Child Welfare S.Saraswathi who is peeved at being denied the TDP ticket for Kodur (SC) constituency, is likely to switch over to the Congress if the latter offered her the seat.
Ex-Union Minister quits BJP

The former Union Minister and a BJP member in the 13th Lok Sabha SBPBK Satyanarayana Rao on Sunday announced his resignation to the primary membership of the party. In the letter of his resignation Mr.Satyanarayanarao recalled his services to the party and said ignoring the feelings of people of the constituency, 'B' form was given to some other person even without discussing the matter with him.
IAF copters to join drive against PWG

In a new phase in counter extremist operations is all set to begin in the State on Monday with the allocation of five Indian Air force helicopters in Hyderabad to assist the State police during the pre-election offensive against PWG naxalities.
