Dissidence plagues Telugu Desam Party

The latest list of Telugu Desam Party candidates for the Assembly elections has stirred up a hornets' nest and triggered another bout of dissidence and threats of resignations, particularly in its stronghold the two Godavari districts. In West Godavari district, close on the heels of the resignation of Allu Venkata Satyanarayana, ex-MLA from Palacole from the party after being denied ticket, the Major Industries Minister K.Vidayadhararao has repeatedly expressed his displeasure over the manner in which his suggestions on selection of candidates were ignored.
Brahmana Garjana in Visakhapatnam

Hundreds belonging to the Brahmin community in the north Andhra districts of Srikakulam, Vizianagaram and Visakhapatnam will participate in the 'Brahmana Garjana' scheduled here from Sunday. The daylong programme is aimed at creating awareness among the community on the need to exercise the franchise, the organizing committee member and Advocate, Kandala Srinivasarao said. Thee leaders of the community would on Monday to take a decision on extending support to candidates contesting the elections.
Lok Satta proposes Naidu-YSR face-off

The Lok Satta has proposed a series of live televised debates between the leaders of the Telugu Desam Party and the Congress in front of a small group of 150 to 200 selected audiences. The two debates in Telugu to be shown on all channels across the State on the lines of those in vogue in the U.S. between the two principal contenders for the presidential elections would be of 90-minute duration according to Jayapraksh Narayan, coordinator of the Lok Satta.

The outlawed PWG agenda of preventing only a few political parties from campaigning for the coming elections was nothing but vitiating the election process, the DGP S.R.Sukumara observed while speaking to press persons. He said that police were taking several measures to ensure a level-playing field to all political parties in respect of campaigning. Police would function totally impartially as always. The Center Para military forces were given to the State and were sent to districts well in advance of election schedule.
Fake currency racket busted

A fake currency note racket has been busted when the Gurzala Police arrested three persons of the gang and recovered fake notes with a face value of Rs.1lakh.On a tip off, the police of one of the gang members Srinivas Reddy and recovered fake notes in Rs.100/- denomination. Police could also seized a photo scanner, fake notes with an exchange value of Rs.65, 000/- half printed notes, white paper bundles a computer, cutting machine and other material.
