Cheap liquor claims two lives in Vijayawada
Vijayawada
Two rickshaw pullers died after consuming 'cheap liquor' at Sivalayam Street of the Governerpeta are in the city in the early hours of Saturday. The deaths sparked off strong protests from the Left parties with the leaders and activists of the CPI and CPI (M) as well as the Centre of Indian Trade Unions laying a siege to the prohibition and excise station at Governerpet demanding action against the wine shop dealers who supplied the bottles.
Congress candidate withdraws from contest from Chitoor

In a significant development, the official Congress nominee for the Chittor Assembly seat, C.J.Dineshkumar Reddy withdrew from the contest as curtains came down today on the withdrawal of nominations in the district. This leaves the Congress without its official candidate in the constituency.
Two policemen killed in exchange of fire

Two policemen were killed on Saturday evening in an exchange of fire between PWG naxalas and a special police party combing the Remidicherla area in Bollapalli mandal of Guntur district where about 70 bus passengers had a providential escape in the morning when naxalities blasted a landmine.
Police intensify vigil in agency areas

The district police have intensified combing of the agency area in preparation for the election on April 20th according the Superintendent of Police, SK Jain while addressing a joint press conference with the Joint Collector Peeyush Kumar at Narsipatnam on Saturday.
CPI(M) to back Congress in Vizag I

The Communist Party of India (M) will hereafter campaign against the BJP and the TDP and work for the success of the Congress nominee in the Visakhapatnam I constituency. Announcing this at a press conference here on Saturday, the CPI(M) leaders alleged that the Prime Minister and the Chief Minister were trying to hoodwink people by making false promise of employment.
Congress confirms Narsipatnam candidate

The APCC has confirmed P.Ramachandra as the party's official candidate for the Narsipatnam Assembly constituency on Saturday putting an end to the confusion among the rank and file of the party Assembly segment. The confusion was cleared by the APCC by dispatching the polling material to D.Ramachandra. Later in the day, he was sent a telegram asking him and his followers to attend the election meeting to be addressed by the AICC president on April 15th.
Parties join hands for Telengana front

Senior Congress rebels and leaders of several other recognized political parties are planning to float, in the next couple of days a "Telengana United Front" with a common agenda and manifesto. Speaking to reporters here on Saturday, they said the basic objective of the front was to support the demand for a separate Telengana State. The front leaders would canvass for the victory of the nominees of its constituents.
APCC president says he is ready to face probe

Stung by the "pay for ticket" allegations by his own partymen, the APCC president, D.Srinivas on Saturday said he was "open to any enquiry" even while dismissing them as baseless". Participating in the "meet the press" programme organized by the APUW Journalists, Mr.Srinivas however, refused to comment on the former Union Minister, P.Shiv Shankar and senior party leaders' demand for ordering a CBI enquiry into the issue. "There is no; truth in the allegations; Let them prove their charges" he said.
Legal notices serve to Jaleel Khan

The APCC president D.Srinivas has served a legal notice on the former Congress MLA Jaleel Khan warning him of civil and criminal proceedings for the outbursts against him. Mr.Srinivas had earlier warned Mr. Khan of the development in view of the latter's insinuations against him. Mr. Khan has been claiming that he had given money for the party ticket to Mr.Srinivas but was deprived of the same.

The notice stated that the former MLA was involved in some business transactions of the APCC president's son who was running an electronic goods shop at Vijayawada and he had only repaid the money but had not given any amount for the sake of the ticket. Mr.Srinivas said the Mr. Khan had tarnished not only his image but also that of the Congress president Sonia Gandhi by leveling similar charges against her.
YSR buoyed by good response

The Congress campaign went into top gear as the "Jaitra Yatra" spearing a headed by the former CLP leader Y.S.Rajasekharareddy entered the Sathupalli constituency. The rally passed through scattered village and roadside colonies. People rushed out in large numbers, garlanded him and joined the rally.Dr.Reddy appealed for vote with folded hands. He traveled standing up for hours together in the op top vehicle without showing any fatigue.
More rebels of TDP in fray

Over a dozen rebels of the Telugu Desam Party remain in the fray for the second phase of elections after the last date of withdrawal of nominations on Saturday. However, the TDP leadership managed to persuade party rebels in an equal number of other Assembly constituencies to pull out of the contest and extend support to the official candidate.
TDP sarpanch kidnapped and freed

A Telugu Desam Party sarpanch of Tirmanpalli village in Dichpalli Assembly constituency was allegedly abducted by unidentified persons from his house late last night and later released in Gambhiraopet mandal of Karimanagar district. According to reports, the sarpanch Dhanraj, who has been actively campaigning for the Minister for School Education, Mandava Venakateswararo was reportedly wished by masked miscreants from his house in the village. He was warned dire consequences if campaign for the former minister and released him.
Sub-Inspector, husbands die in road mishap
Eluru
A Sub-Inspector of Police Matta Sabita Sridevi attached to the women police station in the district headquarters town and her husband died in a road accident at Duddukuru in West Godavari district on Saturday. According to Kovvuru Sub Divisional Police Officer, the couple was run over by a quarry lorry while coming to Eluru from Rajahmundry on motorcycle.
Women along with two kids end life at Bapatla station
Guntur
A women along with her tow children committed suicide at Bapatla railway station in Guntur district on Saturday afternoon by jumping in front of Krishna Express which was proceeding from Hyderabad to Tirupathi.
