Tirupati/Hyderabad - October 1, 2003

The People's War Group (PWG) which is believed to be behind the attack. PWG has a strong grip in the states of Andhra Pradesh, Orissa, Jharkhand and West Bengal. However, PWG has not yet claimed itself to be responsible for the attack. This is the first major attack on a Chief Minister by the Naxal group though PWG has killed a Minister in recent times in a neighboring state and many police personnel in the state.

The Naxal group is banned by the Government of Andhra Pradesh. Many attempts by Social workers to have a discussion between the Government and the PWG failed.
