Germany President completes his Hyderabad tour
President of Federal Republic of Germany, Mr. Mr. Johannes Rau was given a send-off as he ended his tour to Hyderabad. He earlier visited the National Remote Sensing Agency and the historic Charminar. Secretary to Department of Space and Chairman of ISRO/NRSA Dr. K Kasthuri Rangan detailed about the Indian Space Program. The Rau couple had a luncheaon with Governor Sri. Surjit Singh Barnala and Chief Minister Mr. N Chandrababu Naidu.
Special relief plan to fight drought
The question and Hour session for the day was postponed with a special discussion on drought being taken up in which members from various districts in the state tried to bring the drought situation to the idea of the Assembly.
Replying to this, Chief Minister Mr. N Chandrababu Naidu said that the Government has a special relief plan which provides the highest allocations to the districts. He said that Rs. 2280 crores were readily available for Drough-relief work programs. Drought pensions and 10 kgs of rice every month. Rs. 40 crores was allocated for the procurement of grass for cattle Rs. 20 Lakhs will be distributed as Drought Pensions. 10 Lakh Old people will be given 10 Kgs of rice as a relief measure while others get rice on subsidy. He said that a relief to this tune was provided only in Andhra Pradesh even when there are many states which are suffering from severe drought. MLA Mr. K Satyanarayana (BJP) asked for a permanent solution to drinking water problem while C Venugopal Reddy (Congress) asked for insurance on bore wells being taken in rural areas. Other members asked for stopping of forceful recovery of electricity bills.
Hyderabad Eco-Tourism Project approved
Minister for Forests Mr. Ch Ayyannapatrdu said in New Delhi today that the Union Eco-tourism project in Hyderabad city. The project is the first of its kind in the country and will be setup with the help of private sector support in the 110 acres of land selected for the purpose.
Personal comments on members spurs assembly proceedings
Proceedings at the Assembly didn't go forward with Congress and TDP party members making personal comments on each other. Earlier Congress, BJP and CPM raised the issue of making back log posts recruitments in Government Departments by Staff Selection Commission. Home Minister's comments on CLP Leader Dr. YS Rajasekhara Reddy brough a spur in the house for which YSR asked for the conduction of an enquiry by a sitting court judge and that if any case was proved on him, he shall quit from politics.
Justice Devendar Gupta is new CJ of High Court
Justice Devendar Gupta took over as the new Chief Justice of High Court. Justice Lakshmanan who was earlier in the post is nominated as the Judge of Supre Court. Governor, CM and his Cabinet members were present at the oath taking program.
