Government agrees to place controversial land assignment files before speaker
The Government offered to place all the files relating to controversial assignment of lands by C. Arjuna Rao, former Chief Commissioner, Land Administration and Satish Chandra, Special Secretary to the Chief Minister. The Opposition found fault with the Chief Minister for relieving Arjuna Rao of his responsibilities. Chief Minister Mr. N Chandrababu Naidu made a statement and agreed to place the files before the speaker for their perusal.
Andhra University introduces course on Mrudangam
Andhra University has introduced a post-graduate course in Mrindangam. The Coordinator of the AU Department of Music, Mr. V. Gowri Rammohan said that the Mridangam is a self-employment course and also offers job opportunities in music colleges and schools. 10 seats are allocated for this new course.
Two bills amending MV Tax passed
The State Assembly passed two bills amending the Andhra Pradesh tax on entry of motor vehicles into local areas Act of 1996 and 2001 consequent to the adoption of Value Added Tax.
Resolution condemning war should be adopted by the State Assembly - Raghavulu
The CPI(M) Andhra Pradesh State Committee called for a resolution by the assembly condemning the attack on Iraq. The Secretary of the Committee, Mr. B.V. Raghavulu said that the West Bengal and Bihar have already adopted resolutions and Chief Minister should devote attention to it.
14,000 Vidya Volunteers to be appointed - State Government
The State Government said that it will appoint 14,000 Vidya Volunteers to take up teaching in Government Schools in the next two academic years. A honorarium of Rs. 1,000 per month will be paid for ten months each year to such volunteers.
XIXth Convocation of JNTUC held
The XIXth Convocation of the Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University was held in Hyderabad. The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Hyderabad Mr. Kota Harinarayana called upon the students to develop skills of innovative thinking. Earlier, the Governor, Surjit Singh Barnala conferred Doctor of Philosophy on D. Swaminadhan, distinguished academic and Vasudev K. Aatre, a noted scientist.
A Naxal Couple of Squad Area Committee (SAC) of the People's War Group surrendered before the S.P. Mr. Atul Singh. Jarta Chanti Alias Prasad, Korra Pandamma alias Kumari have surrendered at Narasipatnam near Visakhapatnam.
