Andhra Pradesh Government decides to go with VAT
Minister Sri Vijaya Rama Rao, announced in Assembly today that the state Government has decided for the implementation of Value Added Tax (VAT). He said that the implementation will be beneficial to the customers and not to the Government or to the Sellers. Commenting on this, Congress MLA Sri Maisoora Reddy said that there is no need of support or comments on this decision but said that the Government will come to know of the result of being against Business establishments during the Elections.
Prudential Bank depositors stages demonstration against Government not having control
Depositors of Prudential Co-Operative Bank staged a demonstration at the house of the Chairman of the bank when they found that the bank was not opened today. They tried to block the road but were moved away by the Police. A similar response was seen when they tried to visit Chief Minister where Police and Security personnel rejected for the entry. The depositors warned of extreme steps if the Government does not address their problem and questioned why it gave clearance for the establishment of such banks.
New Courts to take up financial crime cases
Home Minister Sri Devendar Goud said that the Government is considering establishing of a new court to look into the increasing white collar crimes in the state. He said that the Depositors Protection Act will be considered by Police in taking quick and prompt action. He said that the Real Estate Act needs to be strengthened in reply to a question raised by a member in regard to financial crimes in the state.
JAC says No to Globalization
The Joint Action Committee of Employees and Workers, Andhra Unit staged a demonstration against the Government for taking anti-Employee and anti-Worker strategies. They raised slogans which read 'No Globalization'. The Chairman of the committee Mr. Poorna Chandra Rao asked the Government to fill the 2 lakh-odd pending jobs under the state Government.
A section of the Farmers Association staged a demonstration in Hyderabad asking the Government to stop recovery of loans and give relief fund to the farmers who were hit by the drought situation. They asked for waiver of Electricity Bills during kharif crop season.
Many Medical shops in the state remained closed following implementation of VAT. They demanded the cancellation of levy of Octroi, House Tax and other taxes.
