17 miners feared dead in Coal mine in Godavarikhandi

Water inside the third seam of the 18th Level of the 7 LEP coal mine of Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) trapped 17 miners who were working inside the mine at around 1:45 PM. The miners belong to the Morning shift and joined duties at 4 AM and were to leave at 3 PM.

CK Babu suspended from AICC

As per the reports received at the Gandhi Bhawan, the All India Congress Committee has ordered the suspension of the Congress MLA from Chittoor Mr. K Jayachandra Reddy (CK Babu) on news that Mr. Babu was charged for killing an engineering student.

AU VC stresses for quality education

Vice Chancellor of Andhra University Prof. YC Simhadri stressed the need for quality education and asked the colleges to follow the University Academic Calendar strictly to achieve the same. He spoke with the Faculty Members and officials of the University.

India is Western Union's second largest network

India became the second largest networked country for Western Union Financial Services. This was announced by Mr. Anil Kapur - Regional Director for South Asia of the money transfer service company. The services are offered by its network available in over 11,500 location across 100 cities and towns in the country. Incidentally, Andhra Pradesh is the second largest state in terms of locations of service availability.

Suryapet to host Inter-District Junior Athletic meet

The Andhra Pradesh Amateur Athletic Association (APAAA) Secretary Prof. K Ranga Rao announced that Suryapet will be hosting the State Inter-District Junior Athletic meet to be held between August 8-10, 2003.

Chief General Manager of the mines Mr. KV Rao said that the authorities have began rescue operations and are working to pump out water. Chief Minister Mr. N Chandrababu Naidu was informed about the news and is monitoring the situation. As soon as the water began to enter into the 18th Level, mines in the neighboring 17th level were informed who immediately came out. Rescue operations began at 2:30 PM and maps were in the hands of authorities by 3:10 PM. Pipes for pumping out water arrived by 4:30 PM and began working on it.
