Sukumar is new Director-General and Inspector General
Hyderabad: July 30, 2003

SR Sukumar was appointed as the 22nd Director General of Police. He will take charge tomorrow. He is currently DGP of State Road Safety Authority.

He takes over charge from Pervaram Ramulu who took over as the DGP on 18 February 2002 and is retiring on superannuation. Sukumarak is expected to be in duty till his retirement which will be in 20 months time.

Mr. Sukumarak's appointment has been quiet simply done for there was only one officer above him in terms of seniority. The Principal Secretary for Home Affairs Mr. Bharath Chandra was overlooked and was the only person who superseeds. Mr. Chandra was also overlooked during the apppointment of Pervaram Ramulu. The earlier appointment of Ramulu went into controversy with C. Anjaneya Reddy who is senior to Ramulu went to court in regard to the appointment.
