Review team on drought visits state
A 4-member Central Drought Review Team visited Andhra Pradesh to review the drought condition in the state and to check how that state is utilizing the funds and material that were granted earlier. The State Government asked for Rs. 2160 crores as relief fund since water problem is believed to be more severe this year. existing relief material was a meager. Mr. P K Agarwal, a member of the team said that the Center has already send 6 lakh tones of food grains. The State Government has asked for 50 lakh tones. The team will be visiting Medak and Nalgonda districts which were the most severely hit areas of the state. The team will be meeting meet Chief Minister Mr. N Chandrababu Naidu later on Thursday.

Chief Minister Mr. N Chandrababu Naidu has held a high-level meeting to review the reforms and implementation of works by various departments - Irrigation and Panchayat Raj in particular. He stressed the need for quality and quantity in work and that Engineers have to implement the recommendations as directed. He said that the Vigilance & Enforcement will be implemented. He questioned as to why very few suggestions recommended by Experts were Panchayat Raj Department.

CM restarts surprise visits program
Chief Minister Mr. N Chandrababu Naidu was back with his surprise visits touring various areas of Hyderabad today. He visited Rajendra Nagar where there is almost no cleanliness. Drain water, heaps of dust were all there which made CM to be angry at the officials there. He said that if any irregularities were found, the Municipal Corporators will be removed (or dissolved) as per the law and that elections will be conducted if required. He said an administrative team should be formed which checks cleanliness in the city every Thursday. He said that Photo identity card will be issued to all citizens in Andhra Pradesh and in Hyderabad to start with.

VMC asks for 2.5 TMC's water from Godavari
Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation has finally asked the State Government for 2.5 TMC water from River Godavari. Mayor Mrs. Rajana Ramani said that special reservoirs have to be built to store water for effective water utilization. Meanwhile, CPM staged a dharna stating that VMC is intentionally delaying bringing water to Visakhapatnam. They demonstrated with black pots opposite of the Municipal Office.

Sonia Gandhi halts at Hyderabad for a while
AICC President Ms. Sonia Gandhi was well received at the Hyderabad Airport as she got down for a halt to Goa. APCC President Mr. M Satyanarayana Rao, CLP Leader Dr. Y S Rajasekhar Reddy and other senior leaders received her at the Airport.

APCC Executive Meeting was held at Gandhi Bhawan today in Hyderabad. APCC President Mr. M Satyanarayana Rao presided at the meting. Members discussed on various issues including enrollment of new members. However indifferences were clearly visible particularly among the team from Medak with the APCC.

Over Rs. 5 Lakhs worth sandal wood was recovered by Forest Department in Warangal.

Students and members of the Students Federation of India (SFI) rallied in Warangal district in support to the Indian Cricket Team. They cheered the Indian players and asked them to bring the World Cut yet once more.

CPM demonstrates against bus fare hike
CPM demonstrated and blocked roads in Kurnool district demanding the Government not to hike the bus charges making them unreachable to common man. These demonstrations delaying movement of all vehicles on the Kunool - Hyderabad segment for two hours.

Andhra University Inter-College Championships began today. Teams from over 30 affiliated colleges of the University were taking part in the matches. Apart from Cricket, competitions were also conducted in Volleyball, Badminton and other sports. Counsellor of the Embessary of People's Republic of China, Mr. Tan Zhonghua visited the CARE Hospital and appreciated the hospital on its efforts in the field of Telemedicine. He also visited the International Crop Research Institute or the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT) where Drat Patacheru and the Osmania University.

International Food Tech Exhibition ends
The International Food Tech Exhibition ended today in Hyderabad. Stalls by National and International Food Equipment manufacturers exhibited their items at Madhapur.

Auto Drivers staged a rally against the Government's decision not to allow Autos on National Highways. They said that it is wrong for attributing losses of APRSTC and accidents on the highways.

Tamil Nadu Governor Mr. PS Ram Mohan Rao spoke at a program held at Lakshmi Cancer Memorial Trust, Hyderabad as a mark of World Cancer Day. He said that Yoga, Meditation etc. are still believed to be good cures for cancer.
