Food for Work program to continue - decides Cabinet meet
The Government said that they are ready to punish any Ministers or Officers who are involved in the misappropriation of the Food for work scheme and that the scheme will continue. The Cabinet took a decision to this effect and decided to utilise the K-Band for various sectors like Telemedicince, E-Governance, Human Resource Management, Agriculture etc. The Cabinet said that an independent agency will be set up to implement the K-Band. The Government sanctioned Rs. 4 Crores for water resources. Speaking to the press, Minister for Information and Public Relations, Mr. S Chandra Mohan Reddy said that the Government has already suspended 100 officers involved in the misappropriation of the Food for Work program.

The State Cabinet decided to give 268.70 acres of land in Ramathirdham of Prakasam district for Andhra Pradesh Mineral Development Corporation.

SVU celebrates its 49th Anniversary
The Sri Venkateswara University celebrated its 49th Anniversary today. Vice Chancellor of the University Prof. Murali garlanded the statues of Sri Tanguturi Prakasam and Mahatma Gandhi and paid homage to them. Speaking on the occasion, he said that the University has started with 4 divisions and is now having 46 divisions.

Vigilance Dept. begins verification in Stationery scam
Sleuths of Vigilance Department are checking the additional stationery which was procured in Lakhs of rupees for the Panchayat Department in Kurnool District. They were making a count of the amount of additional station procured from the son-in-law of a Minister. Chief Vigilance Commissioner Mr. MA Karim was himself at the place and said that the report will be submitted in 48 hrs.

Music Director Sri Saranga Pani died when getting on train in Secunderabad Railway Station. Sri Sarangapani is on his way to Warangal and was on his way to Warangal on Sunday and was waiting for the 10:40 train.

The District Sarpanch Association members of Anantapur met today. They discussed the difficulties they are facing and later elected a new team.

Farmers staged a protest against AP Transco in Nellore. They opposed slab rating system. Police came in large numbers and lathi-charged Congress and Left Party members. As many as 5 members were injured in the lathi charge while some of them are taken to remand.

A total of 11 naxals including 7 from the Peoples War Group and 2 Praja Pratinidhis groups surrendered before the Karimnagar Superintendent today. Speaking at the Press, the Superintendent asked the PWG to see that they will not take minors into the group and that this is in accordance to International Human Rights Council.

A Workshop on "Theft of power - Reforms and Challenges" was held at the Engineering Staff College at Dutch Bhawan. Sri Kode Durga Prasad of AP Transco spoke at the meet.

AITUC said that they will oppose Government's attempt of privatization of Coal Mines and APSRTC. AITUC met today in Srikakulam.

Staff Unions of the Bank of India staged a state-wide protest asking for the management to immediately look into the demands. They asked for the change in the Transfer policy.

New Rector for AU
Prof. B Mallikarjuna Rao took over as the new Rector of the Andhra University. He took over from the outgoing Rector Prof. KLN Swamy who took retirement recently. Prof. Mallikarjuna Rao was from the Department of Physics and began his career as a Lecturer in 1964.

In charge Convener of EdCET 2002 - YFW Prasada Rao asked the Students, Teachers and Parents community to submit their questions or comments on the recently released EdCET 2002 Initial Key by September 5, 2002 at the Convener Office in Visakhapatnam. The Key was put on www.VizagInfo.com and www.AndhraNews.com websites.
