CM in Tirupati to attend Brahmostavams Chief Minister Mr. N Chandrababu Naidu visited Tirupati to visit the Temple of Sri Venkateswara Swamy and attend the Brahmostavam festival. Speaking on his arrival, he said that the Government is seriously considering the linkage of Godavari and Krishna Rivers. He said that with the decline of water sources, the need for linkage of various rivers has been becoming inevitable. Commenting on the successful conduction of polls in Jammu and Kashmir, he quoted, "People are wise and they know whom to elect". Union Minister releases Stamp on Tirumala Union Minister for Communications and Parliamentary Affairs Mr. Pramod Mahajan released a postal stamp on "Ananda Nilayam Vimanam" with a face value of Rs. 4. The stamps will be made available through 400 post offices and centers. The Minister also unveiled the Gold plated dome of the Sanctum of Lord Balaji. 17 pilgrims including 8 women and 2 children were injured in stampede in Tirumala during the festive Brahmostavams of the day. The State Government announced that the power cut in urban areas will be decreased from 4 hours to 2 hours following rains in many parts of the state. However, the power cut in the Rural Andhra will remain 6-hours a day. The Income Tax Department said that they have unearthed Rs. 48 Crores undisclosed income through a series of searches in the last few months. Rs. 22 Crores was seized from unaccounted cash, jewellery, fixed deposits and other valuables. Mohd. Siddique was appointed as the new Director of Urdu Academy of Andhra Pradesh. He will serve for the post for one year.
