Second day of Mahanadu stresses on development of backward sectors

The Second day of the Mahanadu program of the Telugu Desam Party stressed on the need for the development of backward sector in the state. Rajyasabha member Sri R Chandrasekar Reddy said that the party was against the separation of state and that separation was not the alternative for the development of the area. Other leaders of the party commented that it was the TDP Party that looked after the development of the backward sectors in the state by bringing out special programme for the poor particularly during the NT Rama Rao-led Government. They said that Congress never came to the rescue of the section.

80th Birth anniversary of Sri NT Rama Rao held

The 80th birth anniversary of former Chief Minister and founder of the Telugu Desam Party Sri N T Rama Rao was observed all over the state. Chief Minister Sri N Chandrababu Naidu garlanded the statue of Sri N T Rama Rao at the Warangal stage and reminded the achievements of the great leader at the Mahanadu program.

APCC says 99% people are against power hike

APCC Part President Sri M Satyanarayana Rao said that the Peoples-vote program on the power hike by the party showed that 99% are against to the power hike. Sri Satyanarayana Rao said that TDP was playing time-bound politics and was making statements to fit to the BJP. He said that the polling on the issue in the Twin cities will be held on 6th June. PCC Secretary Sri Rosayya and CLP Leader Dr. Y Rajasekhar Reddy was present at the press conference.

NTR TDP Party says its ever committed to the poor

NTR TDP Party President Ms. Lakshmi Parvathi said that her party was committed for serving the people of the state without changing with times and that they are having solid foundations.

The Mahandu took up discussions on over 21 points including agriculture reforms and providing fair price for the farmer produce. Another highlighted issue was that of Power reforms for which the TDP President felt sorry at Congress's People Vote program on the power hike. Sri Naidu said that the polling showed decreased interest in Congress party in the state. Other points discussed includes the Janmabhoomi, Congress and Telangana Parties besides others.
As a part of the Power Reforms, Chief Minister Sri N Chandrababu Naidu said that the Government will be implementing Spot Billing for power system from August. He said that TDP took up the work of Simhadri Project at Visakhapatnam wholly for the need of the state.
Tomorrow, being the final day of the Mahanadu will finalize the the Warangal Declarations. The topics for the third day will be on Central and State relations, International issues (including a possible discussion on the Terrorist attacks), Political reforms etc.
The Andhra Pradesh Panchayat Raj Engineers Association gave a notice to the Government that they will go on an indefinite strike from Wednesday (29 May 2002). Mr. K Vijaypal Reddy, General Secretary of the Association said that this decision was taken following failure of talks with the Government on their long term problems.
The Hyderabad Water and Sewage Board announced the hike of Water tax in twin cities. The cost for 15 KL of water will now cost Rs. 90 instead of the earlier Rs. 55.
Mr. Abdul Lateef, a former Sub-registrar who was working at the District Cooperative Central Bank at Guntur was dismissed according to orders from the state Government following ACB raid in which he was booked for taking a bribe of Rs. 2000.
Vice Chancellor of Andhra University Prof. Y Simhadri said that over 2.58 Lakh candidates are appearing for EdCET 2002 being conducted by the University this year. The examination will be on June 16. In all, 600 applications were rejected since BCA, BBM and B.Tech candidates are not eligible for the exam.
