Two people were killed and 24 were injured in a bridge collapse in Vijayawada. The bridge which was under construction on the Vijayawada - Hyderabad National Highway No.9 is being constructed by the National Highway Authority of India as part of widening of Vijayawada - Nandigama section to ease traffic congestion. The project is being executed by M/S Navayuga Engineering Corporation of Visakhapatnam on a subcontract basis with Swarna Toll Ways.
Veteran Film actress, Devika, died in the early hours at a private hospital, after a brief illness. She was survived by a daughter Kanaka. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, Jayalalithaa, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu offered condolences to her. Devika had acted in more than 150 films in Telugu and Tamil.
Shailendra N Roy has assumed charge as the Managing Director of Bharat Heavy Plates and Vessels Limited (BHPV). Prior to joining BHPV, Mr. Roy served for Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited and Larsen & Toubro.
The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) doctor, N Venkata Ramachandra Rao who was kidnapped on Saturday was set free by the abductors. After reaching home Dr. Rao informed the police of his release. Neither he nor his family members were unwilling to share any information on the kidnappers or the ransom paid.
