Body of Sri Balayogi brought to Amalapuram

The body of Speaker of Lok Sabha Sri Balayogi was brought to Amalapuram and was allowed for public homage at SKBR Degree College Grounds. Hundreds of supporters of Sri Balayogi - particularly from Krishna, East and West Godavari districts paid homage to their beloved leader. 5 acres land was chosen for tomorrows funeral. An additional 10 Acre land was also in the process of procurement for the construction of Balayogi Ghat. Strict security was imposed in the area as Prime Minister is expected to attend tomorrows funeral. South Eastern Railway announced that it is running a special train between Secunderabad and Rajahmundry.

Vijayawada Police arrests Ms. Sunitha of Krushi Bank

The Anti Goonda Squad of the Vijayawada Police arrested Ms. Sunitha who is the sister of Venkateswara Rao of Krushi Bank. A reward of Rs. 5 lakh was announced by Government on her earlier. She is reported to be living in an Apartment in the city. She was later handed over to the CID. She however rejected that she has not attended for board of meetings of the Bank and htat she is not involved in transactions with the bank. However, the police say that her name was in bank records for taking a loan to a tune of huge amounts.

CPM says no for power hike by AP Transco

An Open Discussion by Electricity Regulatory Commission continued today in Hyderabad on weather or not AP Transco can increase power tariff in the state. AP Transco asked the Electricity Regulatory Commission to increase charges because of the increase in expenditure as a part of its modernization drive and installation of Transformers and other equipment. CPM however asked Regulatory Commission not to accept any hike since it increases the burden on the common man. Lok Satta felt that AP Transco was not able to improve efficiency nor reduce costs. However AP Transco said that they can increase the efficiency and provide better services in the future if they are provided with sufficient funds.

CM holds meeting on the status of investigation on the death of Ms. Prathyusha

Chief Minister Sri N Chandrababu Naidu has held a meeting in regard to the recent death of film actress Ms. Prathyusha. He asked the police to intensify investigation as there is a possibility that Speaker of Assembly can ask for a discussion under 304 section. Home Minister Sri Devendar Goud, Sri Pervaram Ramulu also attended the meeting.

The Peoples War Group called in for a bundh in 5 states including Andhra Pradesh, Maharastra, Madhya Pradesh, Chattisgarh and Orissa on March 22 against the Prevention of Terrorist Ordnance (POTO). A letter to this effect was jointly issued by the group and asked the people to organise protest rallies, rasta roko and rail roko programs.
Meanwhile, the Adilabad Police has unearthed a huge dump containing ammunition of the Peoples War Group naxals. The dump contained an electronic type writer, two 5-kg cylinders and small weaponry. The dump also contained medical kits used by Naxals in case of emergency.
APCC President Mr. M Satyanarayana Rao expressed shock at the death of former Governor Sri KB Raghunatha Reddy.
The committee from the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) visited the Sri Padmavathi Mahila Viswa Vidyalayam (SPMCC) to evaluate the ongoing programmes.
A Open discussion on Union Budget 2002 was organised jointly by Vizagpatnam Chamber of Commerce & Industry, Institute of Charted Accountants of India - Southern India Region Council and Visakha Tax Bar Association at Hotel Dolphin. Mr. KC Devidas, renowned Charted Accountant and an eminent speaker analyzed the various facts of the Union Budget. He felt that this would the last budget for Mr. Yeshwant Sinha for it hardly hit the middle class family of the society.
The BJP State Executive Committee meeting venue was shifted to Hyderabad and the meet will be held on March 9 and 10.
