Ramulu takes over as new DGP
Sri P Ramulu took over as the new DGP of Police at Hyderabad today. He is the Commissioner of Police, Hyderabad. He took charge from the current DGP Sri HK Dora. He met Chief Minister Sri Chandrababu Naidu on an official visit. The entire ceremony of assumption of office barely lasted for thirty seconds where the outgoing DGP Mr. HJ Dora signing the document of relinquishing charge and Mr. Ramulu affixing his signature to take the charge. Speaking to the media, the new DGP said that he would maintain the efforts of Mr. Dora to improve the police image and said that he will welcome talks with the naxalites but a decision on this regard would be taken by the political executive.

A family of four killed themselves at Kalahasti by consuming pesticide. While three of the family died on the spot, one has been admitted in the hospital. The incident took place at the foot of the hills leading to Kanappa temple. The police were of the opinion that the family is from Tamil Nadu.

Andhra Pradesh won the under-14 Volley Ball Championship in the boys section of the National School Games beating Maharastra at Hyderabad. Home Minister Mr. Devendar Goud distributed trophies to the winners.

Speaker of Legislature Mrs. Prathiba Barathi appointed six panel speakers to look over the proceedings of the Assembly. The list included MV Krishna Rao, Sobhanagi Reddy, Jayaram, Mutyam Reddy, Redya Nayak and K Haribabu.

The Assembly paid homage to former legislature members Sri Bejawada Papireddy and Gottipati Kondappanayudu who died recently.

Congress Legislature Member Mr. Ratnakara Rao brought the issue of insufficient teaching staff in various schools in the state during the Zero Hour. He asked the Government to provide atleast one teacher to a school as exams were fast approaching. He also said that the Government has to complete the appointments and selections under the DSC system.

Health Minister Sri Janardhan Reddy said in Assembly that the Government is keen in regularising practice of private doctors.

Chief Minister Sri N Chandrababu Naidu has held an All-Party meeting to discuss on the drought situation in Anantapur and Mahabubnagar. The meeting decided to plant saplings so that the drought situation will be permanently solved. Plantation of Neem trees is also expected to be made as compulsory.
