State asks for Rs. 810 Crores for Food-for-Work program
The State Government has requested the Centre to sanction Rs. 810 crores and 15 tonns Rice towards the "Food - for - work" program to recover from the drought-situation in the state. The Government under the leadership of Minister for Agriculture Mr. Vadde Shobhanadreeswara Rao, Revenue Minister Mr. P.Ashoka Gajapati Raju met Cabinet Ministers Mr. Santakumar, Ajit Singh, Sarad Yadav and explained the steps that are taken by the Government to overcome the drought situation in the state. They also requested to send a committee analyse the drought situation in the state.

The ACB has conducted raids at the famous Sri Kalahastiswara Temple in the afternoon. They ceased some of the files on which complaints were raised.

The Visakhapatnam Port Trust has become the first port in the country to get ISO 14001 Certification.

Mr. Lanka Harshavardhana Reddy was appointed as the Secretary of State Youth Congress Committee.

The 220 KV Sub-Station at Bommuru near Rajahmundry was caught on fire in the early hours of the day. Two 132 KV Transformers were burnt. Over half-a-dozen fire brigades were deployed to bring the fire under control.

Officials of Education, Labor, Police and Municipality at Khammam in a joint venture booked cases against shop owners and freed 48 children who were below that age of 12. The owners of Jewellery shop, hotels, bakeries and cloth shops were booked. The children who were employed by the shop owners pay a mere Rs. 10 per day.
