TDP announces it is ready for referendum on Janmabhoomi program
Telugu Desam Party today announced that it is ready for a referendum on the Janmabhoomi Program and that it will take the opinion of the people on the Janmabhoomi Program to be held in next January. This was stated by Minister Mr. N Chandramohan Reddy at NTR Trust Bhawan in Hyderabad. Speaking on the Food-for-Work program, he said that the Enforcement and Vigilance has been tightened to keep a check on any misappropriations taking place and that any one involved will be taken as per law.

Rakshabandan Festival in the State
The Rakshabandhan festival was celebrated today all over the state. Members of the Bramha Kumari Samajan and Viswa Hindu Parishad members tied Rakhis to prisoners at Chenchalguda Jail. School Students tied rakis to the prisoners at Warangal Central Jail and to over 150 Naxals in the Naxals block of the Jail.

Cash Reward to Mithali
Chief Minister Mr. N Chandrababu Naidu announces a cash award of Rs. 3 Lakhs to Mithali Raj who recently scored a record of highest test innings of 214 runs by a female cricket player in test matches. Mithali Raj met Chief Minister in the legistlature in the afternoon and he promised that the government will give full support to her.

The CPM Party alleged that Union Minister Mr. Venkaiah Naidu has illegally grabbed the lands and was coming forward with "Dunnagalige vaadede bhoomi" slogans. CPM Secretary Mr. BV Raghavulu told in press conference that the party will hold District wise meetings in the next 15 days.

The Chief Minister Mr. N Chandrababu Naidu monitored the construction works of D Block at the Legislature. The D-block will be used by 18 Ministers and Principle Secretaries. The construction works are expected to be completed by November.

The Andhra Pradesh TV Nandi Awards for 1996-97 were awarded to the best performing shows on the Telugu Television screen today in Hyderabad today. The function was inaugurated by Governor Sri Rangarajan. Speaking on the occasion, he said that actors should be rewarded with these awards and that the awards represent a small part of their effort.

The 4-day Andhra Pradesh Table Tennis Ranking Competitions began in Hyderabad today. About 400 players will participate in the event. The players competing in these compilations will play for the finals of State team which will be held in Vijayawada.

Information Minister Mr. S Chandra Mohan Reddy released a Directory consisting information on all Engineering Colleges in the state. The directory covered detailed information on all 200 colleges along with the courses offered by them.

Elections in Palasa were held today after a period of 20 years. Many voters came out to cast their vote. A total of 30,500 voters were in the Municipality limits of Palasa. The main competition is expected to be between Congress and TDP.

Minister Mr. Pocharam Srinivasa Rao inaugurated an Air-Conditioner Coach of AP Tourism to Tirupati today.

New Bi-Pass Road and a Mega Township in Vijayawada soon
The VUDA will construct a 28km Bi-Pass road in Vijayawada soon. A Mega Township will also be constructed soon said VUDA Officials. They said that Mayor and Collector along with some other officials have discussed this issue with the Ministers Vijayarama Rao and Sobaneedswara rao and noticed the importance in the construction. Construction of 4 Fly-Overs in the district is also in consideration.

New VC for University of Hyderabad
Scientist Mr. Kota Harinarayana has been appointed Vice Chancellor at the University of Hyderabad. The President Mr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam announced the appoinment.Mr. Harinarayana was a receipent of Padma Sri and served in the Aerounautical Department. Mr. Harinarayana was involved in many projects in the past and is the heading the Light Combat Aircraft currently.

The Andhra Pradesh Youth Congress President, T Venkata Rao and some of his party workers were arrested when they tried to blockade the road underneath the flyover near the airport before Mr. Venkiah Naidu’s Arrival. Later, they staged a protest alleging that the police ahs beaten them up when they are holding a peaceful demonstration. Mr. Venkata Rao said that the Youth Congress workers will organise ‘Rail Roko’ tomorrow.
