Chaduvula Panduga program begins all over the state
The 10-day Chaduvula Panduga (Education Festival) of the Government of Andhra Pradesh began today in all districts of the State. The program is an effort to bring 100% literacy rate in the state by the year 2002.

Governor Dr. Rangarajan inaugurated the program at Kesavaram village in Krishna. He reminded that it is really important to see that children admitted do not turn into drop out's and that free mid-day would be an added attraction. Agriculture Minister Vadde Sobhanadreswara Rao said Government is committed with the program and that the necessary arrangements have been done. The Project Director who was at the program said that Balamitra Mandals will be mobilized to monitor activities of the program.

Chief Minister Mr. N Chandrababu Naidu who was at Basara - the home of Temple of Lordess Sarasvathi, inaugurated the Chaduvula Panduga. He said that about 20 Lakh children aged between 5-10 will be benefited with the program.

MCH introduces new Online Accounting system

Commissioner of Hyderabad Municipal Corporation Chitra Ramachandra said that the Corporation has introduced a new financial accounting system for the first time in the state. The modern system allows monitoring of files and payments made by the Corporation online. She said that the facility brings complete transparency.

APSRTC coming with Short and Long Term plans
APSRTC Joint Director Mr. RR Giresh Kumar said that the Corporation has formed short term and long term plans for the development of the City Services. He said that the quality aspects were monitored and that the Corporation is preparing for ISO 9001 certification. He said that about 400 bus services have been recently introduced and that Traffic Home guards and Security will be used to stop auto rickshaws from coming near bus stops.

Doordarshan and Aakasavani Engineering Employees began strike from this morning demanding the Government to look into their problems.

Funeral of Cpt. R Veera Raja Reddy Funeral of Captain R Veera Raja Reddy held

The funeral of Captain R Veera Raja Reddy who died fighting for the Country recently held in Hyderabad today. Governor Dr. Rangarajan, in his message, said that the Country and the State will always remember the braveness of the Captain. Speaker of Rajya Sabha Mrs. K Prathiba Bharathi felt sad at the death of the Captain at a tender age but highlighted the efforts being put up for saving the country.


Birth Anniversary of Sri Pingala Venkiah observed
Andhra Pradesh celebrated the 125th Birth Anniversary of Sri Pingala Venkiah, the man who designed the Tri-color Indian National Flag. Governor Dr. C Rangarajan participated in a function being organized by Pingala Venkiah Memorial & Charitable Trust and paid tributes.

A meeting at the Zilla Parishad of Kurnool made a unanimous decision to ask the Government to announce all areas of the district as drought-hit areas.

CPI(M) Secretary Sri B V Raghavulu demanded for an enquiry into royal treatment to a prisoner who has political influence at the Charlapalli Jail.

The Indian Medical Association - Andhra Pradesh State branch bagged 15 awards in different categories.

Two new Medical Colleges were recognized by the State Government to conduct classes in Medicine. The colleges were Mamata Medical College, Khammam and Pratima Institute of Medical Sciences, Karimnagar. These two colleges will accommodate 100 medical seats each.

The Managing Director of Nikhita Software Limited Mr. Venkat Srikanth was arrested by Madapura Police for their misappropriations and misleading with Data Entry works.
