Violence near Charminar

Old City turns violent
Condition in the Old Town near Charminar in Hyderabad turned violent when some people started to attack on pedestrians near the Charminar in support to Afghanistan and condemning attacks of US over Afghan lands. The Hyderabad Police along with Special Troops and Task Force immediately entered to calm down the people. Stones and Boots were thrown over the police who later on used Water Cannons, Tear Gas and Lathi Charge to disperse the crowds. The incident came to an end after 1½ hr of violence when local leaders tried to calm down the crowds. Over 40 police men were injured in the incident and 20 persons were arrested for their involvement. MIM Leader Sri Ovayssi condemned the entry of police into the Masjid with boots however Hyderabad Police Commissioner said that this has been done only in emergency only. Mr. Ovayssi requested the people to maintain peace in the Old City. He said that his party will work to see that no such issues will not be done again.

Minister for Power Sri Kotta Pallisubba Raidu said that AP Transco has received 2 Lakh complaints from the public and most of them have been completed during the recently held AP Transco Consumer meet held in all district headquarters between October 5 - 11, 2001.

Chief Minister Sri Chandrababu Naidu said that the State Government will work to see that strict laws against Cyber Terrorism will be brought in the country. He said that Cyber Terrorism and Network Security are the hot keywords in the field. He earlier inaugurated the 10th Anniversary function of Hyderabad Software Exporters Association.

Sri B V Raghavulu of CPI(M) said that the Government has to put a Minister or an official to monitor the funds being paid under the Food for Work program. He also said that the Government has to take some immediate decision in regard to the strike by Employees of APSRTC.

Home Minister Sri Devendar Goud inaugurated Akshara Sankranthi program in Ranga Reddy district. He said that the program will be implemented in all districts and enough funds were being sent for the same.

4 women of the same family committed suicide by consuming pesticide in Hyderabad. They wrote that clashes with their family members was the reason for their suicide.

Singareni Colleries announced it will pay a compensation of Rs. 8 Lakhs to the family members of the person who recently lost his life in an accident at the coal mines.

CLP Leader Sri Y S Rajasekhar Reddy requested the Minister for Technical Education Mr. A Rajendra Prasad to hold EAMCET counseling at District-level from next year.

Telugu Academy released a CDROM which teaches how to learn Telugu.

One construction worker from Orissa died when he slipped off a stair case during a construction work.

Sri P Manik Reddy took over as the Chairman of State Industrial Development Corporation.
