APSRTC Strike ends
The Strike by the Employee Unions of the APSRTC ended with both the Unions and he Government stepping down a bit. Discussions between both the parties were held till late night. Of the total of 68 demands of the Government, the Government agrees to fulfill 42 and rejected 16. 10 of them are put for later decision.
The Government also agreed to provide a package of Rs 125 Crores for salaries which results in increase of a minimum salary of Rs. 400 to a maximum of Rs. 1600. This increase in salaries comes effective from April 1, 2001. However, there wont be salaries during the strike period. The Motor Vehicle Tax was now set as 10% in Urban areas and 12.5% in rural areas. The Government also agreed to take the suspended and dismissed employees during the strike period back into duty.
Earlier, CPM held a demonstrating asking people to support for the cause of APSRTC Employee Unions. Congress and various trade unions also participated in the demonstrations. The state wide bandh is expected to be called off.
Heavy rains started to pour in Coastal Districts of Andhra Pradesh. The Cyclone Warning Center at Visakhapatnam said that the condition will remain for 2 more days. Nellore district is expected to be the most effected due to this.
A meeting under the leadership of Chief Minister Mr. Chandrababu Naidu was held with all the ministers of the state. An Ordinance to form a SC/ST Commission and the APSRTC issue was discussed in the meeting.
The State Government decided to set up Administrative Tribunals at District and Village level. Home Minister Sri Devendar Goud said that the present system will be completely changed and that Property tax will be collected once in five years. Even the Housing Taxes collected will be charges once in 5 years. The State Cabinet also decided to merge the Panchayat Raj and Revenue systems for ease in collection of funds in various Panchayats. A Special Water Supply Tribunal will be set to determine Water supplies for various Municipalities and the water tax rates.
The Central Team met Chief Minister today. CM gave a report to the Central Team. The Central Team will be submitting its own report to the Interministerial group who will further analyse and submit the final report to the Central Minister.
Telangana Congress Sudassu decided to bring about pressure on the NDA-led Central Government and hold meetings at District levels. About 24 MLA's met today at Hyderabad to determine its course of action. They also decided to form a special PCC for Telangana region tough most of its members were keen for TCS.
Minster for Road and Buildings Mr. K Vijayarama Rao said that security measures should be improved in Airplanes. He Inaugurated a new training airplane 'Hamsatri' at the Andhra Pradesh Aviation Academy. He felt that though many improvements are made in the aviation industry increasing the security precautions is needed.
The State High Court has issued a notice to Attorney Journal in regard to POTO Act. A writ was filed by Sri B V Raghavulu in the issue. The notice was issued by Chief Justice Satyabrath Sinha and Justics VBS Rao.
The State BJP Party headed by Sri Indrasena Reddy met the Central team that visited Andhra Pradesh recently to monitor the post-flood conditions in the state. They asked the Team to try their best to provide the funds at the earliest to the state.
The Bronze medal winner at the Under-12 World Chess Tournament held in Spain, Ms. Harika met the Chief Minister who congratulated for her effort. She said that extra work could take her to get the IWM and WGM rankings soon.
Dr. V K Aatre, Scientific Advisor for the Ministry of Defense inaugurated the Cavitation Tunnel at Naval Science and Technology Laboratory at Visakhapatnam. He said that the 2nd test of the LCA Flight will be held soon. Director of NSRL, Rear Admiral S Mahapatra was present at the function.
One athlete died when he was struck by a javelin throw hammer at the Rural Games held at Warangal.
