Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu said that the notification for the Panchayat Elections will be released on June 15th and the elections would be held in the 1st week of July. Chief Minister earlier visit at Visakhapatnam Airport to take part in the TDP Mahanadu programme.
The Telugu Desam Mahanadu Programme began at Visakhapatnam today. Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh Chandrababu Naidu and various Ministers attended the programme that began at Port Indoor Stadium. He talked about Poverty as the main problem for the state at the inaugural talk.

There will be 42 issues to be primarily discussed. Sri Ravula Chandrasekahra Rao, the official spokesman of the TDP said that the prime issues will be

Highlights of Mahanadu first Day
  • The Mahanadu meeting began at 11:00 AM instead of the scheduled 10:20 AM
  • Chief Minister spoke for about 90 minutes at a stretch. Most of the topics he refereed are the development programmes being taken by the TDP party.
  • Banners, Garlands and Flower decorations were beautifully placed inside the Auditorium where the actual proceedings of the meeting took place.

5 dead bodies were recovered from the debris of the crashed engineering college building that is under construction in Khammam district. Minister Sri T Nageswara Rao visited the patients and monitored their condition. He said that an enquiry will be made into the issue. He said that the Engineering College has been making the constructions as the dead line for the construction of the permanent colleges was fast approaching. Most of the dead were Coolies who worked at the construction site while many more were still under the debris. The relatives of the patients say the lack of quality in the construction works was the main reason for the collapse.
3 persons died in a road accident in Chitoor district when a Tata Sumo and a Jeep collided yesterday.
CPM Politburo member Sitaram Yechuri spoke at the Party members training programme in Khammam.
After Telangana, its time for a separate Rayalaseema state. Leaders of various parties are now starting to concentrate more on Rayalaseema region. Senior Congress leader Sri Maisoora Reddy said that he will be concentrating on the development of Rayalaseema and ask the Government to allocate sufficient funds for the development of the region.
EAMCET Examination for the year 2001 was held today. The examination was held in 397 centers in the state.
Sri Devendar Goud inaugurated the Blue Clod Squad Police system in Twin cities today. These special police will be equipted with latest armour and are provided with motor bikes so that they can route round the twin cities to catch culprits and offenders of crime. Speaking at the meet, Minister said that the Government is switching to these modern ways of avoiding crime and thereby controlling the crime rate in the state.
The Finance Ministry decided to move the Insurance Regularisation Development Authority from New Delhi to Hyderabad. 60 Acres of land in Gachhibowli was allocated for this.
Kakinada Police has arrested 2 persons who were involved in manufacture of Oil Packets with lesser weight than that of printed on the label. About Rs. 1 Crore worth Oil Packets were seized from them.
