Today is observed as International Women's Day. Women from various parts of the state rallied in the state capital - Hyderabad raising slogans against the increasing violence on them. They demanded for strict laws in the constitution in regard to this.
State Minister for Health Mrs. S Aruna said that Clorination is not a reason for the recent death at Kurnool recently. The Minister went to the hospital and monitored the condition of the patients at the hospital. Meanwhile another person died today at the Hospital. Commissioner of Police, Hyderabad Mr. P Ramulu said that a false news was spread in Delhi that some unsocial elements have burnt the holy book The Quran. The Commissioner confirmed that the news is false and asked the people to maintain peace and unity in the city.
Women took out a rally in Anantapur. A Meet on Women Empowerment and Justice for Women was held at Sri Krishna Devaraya University.
Minister Sri K Srihari said that people should use pension in a positive way, speaking at a program Akshara Sankranthi in Tirupati today.
A Workshop on Quality Assurance on Building began at Hyderabad. Experts felt that Hyderabad, Visakhapatnam and Vijayawada are safe and quiet away from the Sesmic zone. They said that the recent earth quake at Bhadrachalam was noted at over 5 on Richter scale. Scientists said that building a Nuclear Reactor at Nagarjuan Sagar is safe since Nagarjunasagar is the most safest place away from any Earthquakes in the state.
The Govt. of Andhra Pradesh declared 142 mandals in the state as Drought-hit areas. Rs. 30 Crores was granted for Water supply facilities in these areas.
Three people were arrested by the Karimnagar Forest Department Officials in regard to the recent skinning and killing of a Leopard. 16 Nails of the leopard were recovered from them.
A Bomb hoax has detained two trains at Kurnool today. An anonymous phone call was made to the Railway police that bombs were fit in the Bangalore - Venkatadri Express. Bomb Squads were immediately deployed only to find that no bomb was fitted in the train.
Advocates of AP High Court Advocates Association contributed Rs. 18.16 Lakhs to the Gujarat Earthquake Relief Fund. The amount was handed over to the Chief Justice of High Court Mr. Satyabrata Sinha.
