UNO Secretary General Mr. Kofi Annan visited Hyderabad today. He is received by Chief Minister Sri Chandrababu Naidu, Ministers Sri. Dattatreya and Vijayaramarao. He also visited the Self Help Groups / DWCRA Women's Exhibit at Lalitha Kala Thoranam and the Hi-tech city at Madapur. He commented that the developments by DWCRA women were 'Inspiriting to the World'.Teja TV, Siti Cable and Incable has provided Live telecast of Mr. Kofi Annans visit.
He later visited the Hi-tech City at Madhapur and viewed the presentation on AP Wide Area Network, AP Secretariat Campus Network and Dataware housing facilities by Software Experts. Chief Minister Sri Chandra Babu Naidu explained the Government's role in development of IT in the state. He said that All Traditional Models are no longer of any use unless powered by IT. Software Experts and various State ministers took part at the meet.
Mr. Kofi Annan also attended the CII Session on Closing the Digital Divide. He praised the India's development and Andhra Pradesh's interest in its implementation. He felt that Indian IT companies would consider to set up and promote the same for the African countries aswell.
Later the Annan couple were given a warm send-off.
CM visited areas of Hyderabad and Secunderabad during the 29th Clean and Green Program. He made a surprise visit to a school in Cantonment. He said that School students should be made aware of the uses of keeping our surroundings clean and green.
CPI National Level Executive Members meets began today in Hyderabad. Mr. Bardhan said that it is wrong on the part of the NDA Government to still say that their leaders are clean even tough the video tapes were clear in regard to the issue of Defence deals. He also said that TDP's continued support is wrong and that it is clear that it has been supporting the center only to grab more money and funds to the state and are no longer showing their interest on the Nation. The meet will conclude tomorrow.
UGC Chairman Sri Hari Goutam inaugurated a meet at Rastriya Samskruta Peetam in Tirupati. He also inaugurated the Advanced Studies in Education building.
Rajahmundry Police has took a new step towards effective Traffic control.They switched to Sector system in which Special Constables Home guards will be provided with bicycles to go to a particular area and manage the traffic at the place.
Sri Chaitanya Educational Institutions has donated Rs. 5 Lakhs towards Gujarat Earthquake Relief fund.
Sri G Sudheer was given the post of Vice Chancellor for SV University while Prof. Y Saraswathi Rao was moved as the Vice Chancellor for Sri Krishnadeva Raya University.
AP Transco Joint Managing Director Sri K Durga Prasad said that Theft of Power was still on. He said in the last month, AP Transco has registered 2278 power theft cases.
