3-phase schedule for Panchayat Elections
The State Election Commission announced the dates for the Panchayat Elections in various districts in the state. August 14, 17 and 20 were chosen as the dates for the election. Speaking at a press conference, the State Chief Election Commissioner Sri Madhava Rao said that in view of the drought areas in the state, various drinking water schemes, distribution of seeds, pesticides, fertilisers ands others will be exempted from the current elections. The voters list prepared till January 2001 will be considered and new entries till data which have been already reflected in the list will also be allowed. He said that the Commission is still considering the appointment of a 3-member independent team to monitor the elections.
EAMCET 2001 Counselling begins
Counseling for the merit students in EAMCET 2001 began at various centers in the state. About 40,000 students are expected to attended in the first phase of counseling sessions. The verification of Certificates and Medical Checkups were done for Phisically Handicapped and children of Armed Personnel. Joint Convenor of EAMCET 2001, Sri Krishna Rao said that this years counselling will be held in 5 centers with online Video Conferance.

A 3-year old tiger cub was caught in the Chilkuar Deer Reservoir. The Tiger cub is believed to be killing Deers and stags in the areas. Forest officials made arrangements to move the tiger cub to Sri Sailam Tiger Reservoir.

AP Government invites private participation for Tourism Projects
The Andhra Pradesh Government approved an ambitious plan to attract private entrepreneurs to invest in Tourism sector in the state. An action plan was drawn to this effect and the total expenditure under this sector is expected to be whooping Rs. 300 Crores. The projects includes Visitors Zone at Tirupati at a cost of Rs. 150 Crores, Ropeway at a cost of Rs. 75 Crores, Family Entertainment centers in Hyderabad and Vijayawada at a cost of Rs. 39 Crores and the remaining amount for smaller projects including Riverside Resorts, Region and Watertheme Parks in various centers in the state.

Bomb Alert for Visakha Express
Visakha Express from Palasa to Kachiguda left Visakhapatnam 3 hours late when an unknown caller called up and alerted of a bomb in the train. Police - both Civil and Railway immediately attended to the Train and alert the passengers to get down the train. Bomb Squad and Police sniffer dogs were brought and the entire train was thoroughly checked only to note the phone call to be false. The train left Visakhapatnam Railway station at about 7:35
