The second phase of Local Panchayat Elections began today. Polling in 11 centers in Cuddapah were postponed due to mistakes in Ballot papers. Polling in Karimnagar started slow with Naxals warning not to participate in elections.
Polling began early in the 59-odd centers in Nalgonda. About 30% of the votes were polled in the first 4 hours of poll. Polling at Ramayyapeta, Suraram centers was stopped with mistakes in ballot papers in which the symbol of CPI was printed instead of CPM symbol. Repolling in these areas will be held tomorrow.
Elections in Rayalaseema began slow. Ballot papers torn in some areas and polling came to a halt. Reports came that some TDP-believed activists kidnapped 4 Congress members in Chatalamudi. MLA Mr. Varadaraja Reddy and Mr. Palakonda Raidu were believed to be attacked.
Polling in East Godavari began at 7 AM this morning. About 20-30% of votes were polled in the first 4 hours.
Votes came forward despite showers in many areas of the district. Polling is peaceful in Agency areas despite Peoples War Group warnings.
Polling also began at many areas in Krishna. About 30 - 20 % were polled by 11 AM. 2 Corporators were arrested in Vijayawada.
The State Election Commission said that about 60% of the votes were polled in whole. Police fired 8 times in Rayalaseema when some TDP activists tried to create hovac outside a polling station. Reports also came out that a Videographer of Teja Television was attacked when he was taking video when TDP activists were rigging in elections. The State Election ordered into a re-polling in a total of 76 constituencies in the state. The repoll will be held on Monday.
Director General of Police Sri H K Dora thanked the people for casting their vote in a peaceful manner. He said that this time, elections were held in a very peaceful manner as against to the previous ones.

Senior Film Producer Mr Ramoji Rao released Audio cassette version of the Bhagavadgita. Director Sri Viswanath, Sri Kodi Ramakrishna were present at the launch.
