Bill on amendment to the Stamps and Registrations Act passes through Assembly

Minister for Revenue, Mr. Yanamala Ramakrishnudu brought some Amendments to the Stamps and Registrations Act. Thorough discussion on this was carried. MLA Mr. K Haribabu suggested that the Government make a thorough review on the Stamps and Registrations Act and that the registration documents should clearly mention the sellers and purchasers information along with the transactions in order to avoid illegal registrations. Some members of the Opposition parties later staged a walkout after the Government decided not to drop the bill. The bill was later passed through the assembly.

Minister Sri Ashok Gajapathi Raju brought the Andhra Pradesh Official Languages Amendment Bill to the Assembly.

5% additional surchange on Property Tax
The Government decided to take an additional 5% as surcharge on Property Tax. Telugu Desam Party MLA Mr. Diviseeta Ram asked the Government about consideration of expanding Fire services to all parts of the state. Replying to this, Home Minister Mr. Devendar Goud said that an additional surcharge on property will be levied as in other states and the funds that are derived will be diverted for expansion and modernisation of fire services.

The Government also brought our a plan for teaching school-going students in Urban areas on how to avoid accidents and create awareness about traffic rules. Home Minister said that it will be expanding the facilities to rural areas later. Home Minister also announced in the assembly that an all-party meeting will be conducted soon on taking a decision on talking with Naxals and bring about a peaceful pact.

Municipal Elections for Palasa and Kasibugga to be conducted on February 10, 2002
Minister for Municipal Administration Mr. N.M.Farooq said that the state Government is taking all steps to conduct the elections of Palasa and Kasibugga Municipalities on February 10, 2002. The delay was caused because Palasa was treated to be a Panchayat and that the recent change into 15 divisions Municipality was bringing difficulties.

Congress and Left parties asked the Government's stand on employment opportunities for educated youth in the state. Replying to this, Minister Mr. Yenamala Ramakrishnudu said that when there is an emergency or any need, it will surely take the services of the educated youth in the society. Not getting satisfied with the Minister's reply, the members of the CLP staged a walk-out. TRS Leader Mr. Chandrasekhara Rao asked the Government to consider the state of Tobacco farmers in the state.

7 people died and 16 people were injured when a Lorry hit a tractor between Guntur - Manugolo on the National Highway in the early hours of the day.

Ramanna Dalam blasts Basampally railway station
The Ramanna Dalam of People's War Group blasted the Basampally railway station in Anantapur which was only inaugurated yesterday. A letter left by the Naxals revealed that they have restored to this act against the anti-farmer reforms of the Central and State Governments and not coming to the rescue of the Ground-nut farmers in the area.

Union Minister Mrs. Sushma Swarj visited ETV Studios and the Ramoji Film City in Hyderabad. She also visited the Electronic News facility of the Studio and congratulated the group on their efforts in broadcasting quality and entertaining programs.

30,000 staff to work for Hyderabad Municipal Corporation elections
Hyderabad Election Authority, Mr. P K Mahanthi said that about 30,000 staff will be deployed for the upcoming Municipal Corporation Elections of Hyderabad and that efficient training will be provided to them to see that the elections take place peacefully and in fair means. He said that Hyderabad Municipality has 26.5 voters and that 3064 polling stations will be setup for the elections.

A Review meet of Sada Thulla Hussain Committee for providing subsidies to Minorities programs implemented by the Government was held today at Warangal. The Commission said that Medical Colleges will be started soon in Cuddapah and Warangal Districts.

The Visakha Diary has won the award for outstanding contribution to the Co-Operative movement from th Krishna Diary. The award was received by the Chairman of the Visakha Diary, Mr. Adari Tulasi Rao.
