The State BJP Unit celebrated the birthday of Prime Minister Mr. A B Vajpayee. A special program was held in Rangareddy district. Union Minister Mr. Venkiah Naidu said that the Center was spending Rs. 60 Crores for the overall development of the rural villages in the country. He said that he will be requesting the Finance Ministry to consider exempting telephone subscribers to file income tax return. He said that the Central Government is working on in a phased manner to eradicate poverty by 2010.
Christians all over the state celebrated the Holy Day of Christmas today. Special prayers were held in all churches and Christians greeted each other and exchanged gifts. Chief Minister Sri Chandrababu Naidu took part in Christmas celebrations in a church in Secunderabad. He said that the Government grants for the minorities will be increased and that a special Christian Cell will be setup to see that the funds will be properly used.
Encounter between the Police and People's War Group forces left 4 naxals dead at about 4:00 AM in the morning. The encounter began when the police were fired at when they were holding combing operation in regard to the previous day attack of the naxals at the Hanumakonda Police Station.
Dronamraju quits Congress
Veteran Congress Leader Mr. Dronamraju Satyanarayana announced his resignation from the primary membership of his party. Releasing a copy of his resignation letter sent to Ms. Sonia Gandhi, he said "I am willfully serving my five-decade old relationship with the party to safeguard my self-respect". He indicated that he had no plans to join any other political party immediately. The veteran Congress leader, who had close relationships with former Prime Ministers Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi, had been associated with the party since 1952.
Master K Trinadh and Master P Someshwar from Andhra Pradesh have been selected for the National Bravery Awards 2001 by the Indian Council for Child Welfare. The awards will be given by the Prime Minister on the eve of Republic Day at New Delhi.
