The Telugu Desam Party State general secretary and Kamalapur legislator, Mr. M. Damodar Reddy, took out a rally from Jammikunta mandal headquarters to Karimnagar town today in protest against alleged police harassment of a former Mandal Parishad president. Mr. Damodar Reddy took out the rally with his supporters in a number of vehicles. As soon as the police got information that TDP supporters were likely to besiege the town with vehicles, they deployed additional forces at Alugunuru village and obstructed the procession at the village crossroads on the Karimnagar outskirts.
Fifteen persons, accused of killing TDP workers at Balusupadu village of Peddakurapadu area, Guntur district, were sentenced to life imprisonment by a Division Bench of the A.P.High Court on Tuesday. The Bench, comprising Mr. Justice Ramesh Madhav Bapat and Mr. Justice B. Prakash Rao, was allowing an appeal filed by the State against the judgment of the District and Sessions Judge, Guntur, who had acquitted the accused.
The Governor, Dr. C. Rangarajan, on Tuesday congratulated P. Harikrishna, the country's youngest Grand Master, for winning the Commonwealth Chess Championship. In a press release, the Governor said that the State of Andhra Pradesh was proud of Harikrishna. The Chief Minister, Mr. N. Chandrababu Naidu, expressed hope that having become the youngest Grand Master, Harikrishna would bring many more laurels to his motherland in future, according to a press release
