2nd Phase of Repolling ends peaceful
The 2nd Phase of Repolling of Panchayat Elections was held today. The elections were held peacefully all over the state only with few minor incidents. Polling was held at Giddaluru of Prakasam on the recent death of the Surpanch. The election at Cheverlu area of Ranga Reddu was postponed for tomorrow. Police fired into air in Boggulumandalam of Guntur to stop clashes. Ink and water into Ballot boxes was dropped in some polling stations at Visakhapatnam, Cuddapah and other areas.
Sri KSN Murthy, Secretary said that 76.04 % of polling was reported from various polling booths in the state. Kurnool stood at the first with 65% of polling and Warangal at the least at 39.31%.
High Court accepts Ms. Lakshmi Parvathi case against Dr. Kakarla
The State High Court accepted the case filed by Ms. Lakshmi Parvathi against Dr. Kakarla Subba Rao who wrote some of his personal feelings on the death of Former Chief Minister Sri NT Rama Rao. The District Criminal Court summoned Dr. Kakarla Subba Rao.
CID Team begins investigation on Krushi Bank
A Special CID team started investigating in a scam at the Krushi Bank in Secunderabad. Mahankali Police Station confirmed that special teams were set and that clues were being collected in regard to the case. All the Bank Directors have no fixed assets and that they were living in rented apartments.
Sri Ramnivas Mirdha visits Hyderabad
Senior Congress Member Sri Ramnivas Mirdha visited Hyderabad on a 2-day visit. He was welcomed by APCC President Sri M Satyanarayana at the Gandhi Bhavan. Speaking to the press, Sri Mirdha felt that the coalition cannot last long and NDA Government is sure to fall. He said that the NDA Government is Safronising the Education system.
PDSU says no to Astrology as a subject
Members of the PDSU staged a dharna today in Hyderabad against introduction of Astrology and Pranic Healing as subjects at University levels which were not scientific and technical. Members of AIDSO also took a rally against introduction of Astrology as a subject.
Trains rescheduled for construction works
The South Central Railway announced cancellation to some of its services in the Chennai-Guntur section as it is taking up construction of a pedestrian subway on August 19, 2001. Due to this some trains are reschedules while some more are being cancelled.
Boat Operators at Kakinada Harbor took a rally against Exemption of Sale Tax and Decrease of Berth fees. The Boat Operators took to rally and submitted a letter to the District Collector.
Two people died on the spot due to heavy burns when some unknown persons have set fire to the hut in which they were sleeping. This incident took place in Gorantla area of Anantapur district.
