GET Group to deliver ePassport, ID issuing systems with Entrust PKI
DALLAS, Sept. 4 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Helping secure nine of the top 10 e-governments, Entrust, Inc. (Nasdaq: ENTU) has led the charge to secure electronic passports, e-borders and national ID card initiatives. To further grow its trusted ePassport partner network, Entrust will collaborate with GET Group, a respected, proven supplier of ePassport and identification solutions and technologies.
"We've been a proud technology partner of Entrust as a value-added reseller, but now GET Group's Passport and ID Division will collaborate on global projects by leveraging their proven and highly secure ePassport technology," said GET Passport and ID Division President & CEO, Gary Christelis. "By collaborating on a complete solution, we'll be working together to ensure the latest ePassport technology is available to security-conscious governments across strategic global regions."
GET Group will integrate Entrust's ePassport public key infrastructure (PKI) capabilities -- based on both Basic Access Control (BAC) and Extended Access Control (EAC) technology -- to help complete an efficient, comprehensive end-to-end ePassport solution. GET Group was the first ePassport vendor to take part in Entrust's detailed training in Ottawa, Ontario.
"GET Group and Entrust are key players in the development and implementation of ePassport solutions globally," said Entrust Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer Bill Conner. "This important collaboration will allow both organizations to expand services, solutions and technology to enable global governments that seek ePassport expertise."
Entrust is dedicated to partnering with third-party solution providers whose technology can augment or leverage the benefits of Entrust's layered security solutions. Through the Entrust TrustedPartner program, Entrust technology partners can benefit from a rapid, low-cost approach to achieving Entrust Ready status, which denotes a product's compatibility and interoperability with Entrust security products.
The first ePassport generation uses BAC, which features passive and optional active authentication, and is in production in many parts of the world. Unmatched in PKI deployment experience, Entrust provides BAC ePassport security for a number of top e-governments in the world, including the U.S., U.K., Slovenia, Singapore and New Zealand.
As security requirements evolved, EAC was developed to provide governments a way to authenticate access to secure more sensitive biometric information (e.g., digital fingerprints, iris patterns, etc.). EAC is the process defined for verifying that only authorized entities are able to access this biometric data stored on the contactless chip on an ePassport. EAC includes the authentication of a passport Inspection Station (IS) to the contactless chip as well as the authorization of that IS to access the protected biometrics.
ePassport travel documents contain an electronic chip -- smart card or RFID -- that stores information that can be verified against the data on the passport as well as against the individual. Because of the sensitivity of this personal information (e.g., digitized photographs, fingerprints or other biometrics) the security and integrity of e-passports are critical. To help protect these assets, PKI is an integral technology for the security and verification infrastructure of e-passports.
Modular and fully integrated, the Entrust Authority PKI portfolio is built on the foundation of Entrust Authority Security Manager, the certification authority (CA) system responsible for issuing and managing users' digital identities. Optional components can help organizations manage the entire lifecycle of PKI certificates. Approximately 1,000 government and commercial organizations have purchased Entrust PKI solutions since Entrust first brought its PKI to market in the 1990s.
