Americans Attending Beijing Olympics Should Plan Ahead for Medical Emergencies

RADNOR, Pa., July 31 /PRNewswire/ -- As tens of thousands of Americans prepare to attend the upcoming Olympic Games in Beijing, China, the prospect of unexpected injury or illness -- and how to deal with it -- is in the minds of many.

"Finding adequate, appropriate medical care in foreign lands can be daunting, but travelers who prepare before their trip can give themselves peace of mind," said Angelo Masciantonio, CEO and co-founder of HTH Worldwide, a global health and safety services company. "When you consider that half of the Americans who go abroad for two weeks or more experience a medical problem, knowing where to turn in an emergency can mean the difference between a great time at the Olympic games and a two-week nightmare."

There are two tools no American heading for Beijing should be without: mPassport(SM) and travel health insurance.

HTH Worldwide's TravelGap(R) health insurance gives travelers cashless access to medical treatment in China or anywhere else in the world. As a special service for those going to the Olympics, HTH has already secured appointments during August with qualified, English-speaking doctors in Beijing. These appointments are available to all those with TravelGap insurance for any illness or accident.

Another "must have" for going to the Olympics is a 30-day subscription to mPassport(sm), a mobile health information tool for global travelers that was introduced earlier this month by HTH. At a cost of $9.95, mPassport subscribers have convenient access to HTH Worldwide's databases of global health and safety information when they are on the go and on their mobile phone.

The mPassport database has over 4,200 qualified, English-speaking physicians and dentists in 180 countries and selected emergency and urgent care facilities for over 1,100 destinations worldwide. The doctors in the mPassport database are carefully selected specialists, emergency practitioners and family physicians.

Besides the HTH Worldwide searchable physician database, mPassport also features other helpful medical tools for travel abroad:

-- Personalized Health and Security Alerts published daily via SMS text messaging and email.

-- Searchable Hospitals, Clinics and Pharmacies profiles for over 3,400 notable facilities around the world. Many are contracted directly with HTH.

-- CityHealth Profiles convey critical information about healthcare services.

-- Security Profiles contain up-to-date accounts of security risks.

-- txt5(SM) Group Text (SMS) Messaging allows subscribers to keep up to five friends and family members informed of their travels via text messaging or email.

-- Featured Columns authored by physicians on healthy travel tips.

Subscribers can access mPassport at http://www.mPassport.com/mobile on their mobile phones or at http://www.mPassport.com on their computers.
