PENNINGTON, N.J., Oct. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Cruise Critic(R) (www.cruisecritic.com), the leading consumer cruise travel Web site, joins forces in October with Holland America Line and Susan G. Komen for the Cure(R) in an effort to raise breast cancer awareness.
The promotion, a first-ever effort for Cruise Critic, was inspired by the cruise line's innovative On Deck for the Cure(R) program. Founded by Holland America -- and now taking place on other Carnival Corp. cruise lines, such as Carnival, Princess, Seabourn and Costa -- On Deck for the Cure is a 5K walk in which participants walk 9 to 12 laps around the ship on which they are cruising. The walks take place on all Holland America Line cruises, which total more than 500 annually. Participants donate a minimum of $15 and receive a T-shirt, a pink wristband, a pink lemonade party and, most importantly, a sense of stewardship in helping to find a cure for a disease that affects many women and their families, worldwide. Through On Deck for the Cure, the Holland America Line has raised more than $1 million in less than two years. The walks also take place on select voyages of other participating cruise lines and generate donations of $10 to $25 from each participant.
Cruise Critic's role in the month of October will be to raise awareness of this program via a dedicated page on its Web site. The effort will focus on heartwarming stories from cruise ship staff members and passengers who have experienced the program. Also provided will be information about the disease -- furnished by Susan G. Komen for the Cure -- as well as daily fun facts about the On Deck for the Cure program and details on how cruise travelers can participate in the walks.
"Holland America's On Deck for the Cure program has been an innovative and successful way to raise money to help fight breast cancer; we're pleased to be able to help spread the word," said Melissa Baldwin, Managing Editor of Cruise Critic.
