CHANGZHOU, China, July 14 /Xinhua-PRNewswire/ -- The Changzhou National Hi-Tech District announced on July 13 that Japan-based Soudai is set to invest in the District with the aim of creating a new solar PV enterprise. The total investment made by Soudai in the Changzhou National Hi-Tech District (Xinbei District), Jiangsu Province, will be over three phases and is expected to reach US$100 million.
Currently underway, the first-phase with a registered capital of US$20 million is intended to primarily produce monocrystal rods, polycrystal pouring and slices. Jiangsu Soudai Solar Technology Co., Ltd. will cover a land area of 50 mu and its production value will reach US$150 million. The second phase of the project is intended to produce film solar cells, while the third phase will focus on solar energy components and application systems.
Japan's Soudai is located in the Hakodate District of Fukuoka City. The company's annual sales reached JPY11 billion (equivalent to RMB660 million). The company has subsidiaries in Osaka, Yokohama, and four plants in Foshan, China. Its main business is reclaiming, processing and selling silicon materials and various kinds of resins. It has a plant which occupies a land area of 7,000 m2 in Saga and reclaims and produces 300,000 silicon wafers every month. Customers of its silicon waters are all Japanese semiconductor factories located overseas, including several large listed companies.
The Changzhou National Hi-Tech District is trying to develop solar PV enterprises in a bid to build the Changzhou Trina Solar PV Industrial Park with industrial groups which can turn out a production value of up to RMB100 billion and construction on the park began on April 22 this year. Changzhou Trina Solar Limited., a core enterprise in the park, was the second private enterprise in Jiangsu and the third private enterprise in the country that listed on the New York Stock Exchange. The company has already realized the vertical integrative consolidation of the solar PV industrial chain. Meanwhile, five enterprises that include Guangzhou Chien Song Grind Material Co. Ltd., Hubei Feilihua Quartz Glass Co. Ltd. Suzhou Good-Ark Electronics Co., Ltd. and a European PV glass manufacturer have signed investment agreements with the hi-tech district. The five companies will invest US$275 million in the new location. As is typical for China, companies interested in getting established in the park will be offered numerous financial incentives, such as favourable real estate prices, as well as reduced corporate tax and VAT. The arrival of Soudai in Changzhou will further intensify convergence of solar PV enterprises.
