LAS VEGAS, Sept. 29 /PRNewswire/ -- Premier landscape photographer Peter Lik captures the natural beauty of Hawaii with the introduction of the first three volcano images in a series of 12. The volcano images are symbolic of the artist's continued commitment to capturing nature's omnipotence and preserving the legacy of the native land. The photographs offer a sustainable visual representation of an ever-changing environment that can never again be replicated. For 25 years, Lik has attempted to bring to life the magical moment that tells the story of the Big Island's most powerful force. On his most recent pilgrimage to the Kilauea Volcano he was able to emerge from the volcanic ash with the elusive images safely in hand.
"Pele's Whisper," is aptly titled in honor of the Goddess of Fire. Legend tells of Pele, a volatile goddess that took pleasure in her abilities to both destroy and create the land. Pele and her sister Namaka-o-kaha'l, Goddess of Water and Sea, continually sabotaged each other causing Pele to move down the island chain and eventually settle at Mauna Loa Mountain. Pele's mystical profile can be spotted in the upper left of the image, whispering into the ocean and causing steam to part the surface below.
"Revelation" was a result of an overnight adventure to the edge of the sea. Fueled by adrenaline and led by the light of the moon, Lik seized a five minute window of opportunity to capture the unbridled volcanic fury.
The third image, entitled "Evolution," pays tribute to the landscape of the earth. Upon returning to the active volcano site, Lik discovered that the ledge he shot from just hours before had crumbled into the ocean. The tumultuous environment continued to change before his eyes, yet all of the earth's elements remained present. Fire, earth, water and wind are represented in this photograph, working in harmony, evolving.
