Bollywood-Themed Event, Postponed Because of Hurricane Ike, to Support UNICEF's Child Survival Programs in India
HOUSTON, Sept. 26 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The U.S. Fund for UNICEF's Houston office will host a "Mystique of India" gala on September 27 to benefit UNICEF's child survival programs in India. Originally scheduled for September 12 but postponed because of Hurricane Ike, the Bollywood-themed event will be held at the InterContinental Houston and feature a magical bazaar and silent auction.
"Despite a devastating hurricane just two weeks ago, the residents of Houston are resilient and steadfast in their commitment to the world's children, determined to support UNICEF's survival programs in India," said Caryl Stern, president and CEO, U.S. Fund for UNICEF. The gala will feature the presentation of Gold Medallions of Valor Awards to four Houston residents who have made a difference in the fight for childhood survival. The award recipients include singer-songwriter, dancer and actress Kelly Rowland, a former member of Destiny's Child, the best-selling female group of all time; fashion designer Naeem Khan, whose line is currently available in 100 stores throughout the world, including prestigious retailers such as Bergdorf Goodman, Saks Fifth Avenue and Neiman Marcus; and Dr. Kase L. Lawal and Eileen Lawal, CEO and Group Vice President, respectively, of CAMAC, a family-owned, global energy services business that specializes in oil and gas exploration and production, crude oil and natural gas trading and in transportation services Additionally, U.S. Fund for UNICEF Regional Director, Southwest Chapter, John M. Tsacrios, Jr. will be feted for his 26 years of leadership for the organization.
