Sumitomo Chemical of Japan Uses Elemica Network to Facilitate Order Management

Replaces Complex, Costly Manual Processes For Efficiency Boost & Cost Reduction

EXTON, Pa., Sept. 26 /PRNewswire/ -- Elemica, the industry-leading business process network for the external supply chain, announces that Sumitomo Chemical Co. Ltd. of Japan has connected to the Elemica Business Process Network (BPN) to streamline order management with trading partners like BASF and Dow. Sumitomo Chemical is one of Japan's leading chemical companies with $19B in sales, offering a diverse range of products in the fields of basic chemicals, petrochemicals, fine chemicals, agricultural chemicals, and pharmaceuticals.

The Elemica BPN automates the order management processes across multiple systems and partners. Sumitomo Chemical creates, issues, and makes changes to orders via the network and receives order acknowledgements immediately, which improves responsiveness to customers and reduces order fulfillment costs.

"As our supply chain grows in complexity, streamlining the electronic ordering process became a priority," said Osahide Murakami, Manager, Corporate Planning & Coordination Office at Sumitomo Chemical Co. "We chose the Elemica network to provide us with visibility into our order management processes to enable better decision support, faster execution, and improved accuracy while establishing consistent business processes."

Elemica worked closely with Japanese integration partner, JFE Systems, to implement the solution. Sumitomo is the first company to deploy Elemica's Order Management solution with Chemical eStandards (CeS) Version 4.0 functionality developed by the Chemical Industry Data Exchange (CIDX). CIDX is a global trade association and standards body dedicated to improving and securing electronic connectivity for chemical companies and their trading partners. The ability to support CeS 4.0 is critical to doing business in the Japanese market as companies start to venture beyond traditional EDI.

"The Elemica development team worked diligently to enable the new CeS 4.0 standard that enables highly secure transactions among trading partners over the Internet," said Marianne Rehn, Vice President Asia-Pacific, Singapore Branch, Elemica. "The initial order transmission went smoothly as have all subsequent transactions. Order management over the Elemica network drives operational efficiency by replacing complex, costly manual approaches with streamlined, automated processes. We are very excited to have Sumitomo Chemical join the Elemica network."
