Motorola WiMAX Interoperability Testing Program Validates Performance Compatibility of Multi-vendor Devices

Labs in Taiwan and U.S. assure customers devices they've selected will operate on their Motorola 802.16e WiMAX networks

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill., Sept. 24 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Motorola, Inc. (NYSE: MOT), in an effort to help service providers get to market more quickly and win market share, has launched its WiMAX interoperability testing program (IOT). Motorola offers WiMAX IOT services in labs at its facilities in Arlington Heights, Ill., and at its new lab in Taiwan that is operated in partnership with M-Skylink. The location in Asia further enhances Motorola's ability to fulfill its commitment in the M-Taiwan project by helping to establish an ecosystem for WiMAX technology in Taiwan and worldwide.

Through its IOT program, Motorola validates for its customers that a device is compatible with their WiMAX network infrastructure and helps those WiMAX infrastructure customers make decisions about which customer premises products and mobile devices they should consider.

"It's important to help our operator customers expand their choice of devices so they can go to market with high-performing solutions that will readily attract customers to their networks," said Darren McQueen, Motorola vice president, Wireless Broadband Access Technologies. "By providing IOT services in two locations, we're making it more convenient for manufacturers and our customers to see devices in action on a Motorola WiMAX network."

Vendors wishing to submit products to Motorola for interoperability testing must provide assurances that the products conform to the WiMAX Forum's (R) specifications for certification or have been WiMAX Forum Certified(TM). WiMAX Forum certification is the first step in building an ecosystem of networks and devices. Interoperability testing helps take the adoption of WiMAX to the next level by ensuring compatibility of multi-vendor networks and devices so operators can begin offering a variety of devices to their customers.

Motorola has contracts for WiMAX networks with 22 customers in 17 countries, including those already offering commercial service in Chile, France, Germany, Mexico and Pakistan.
