Press Conference to Follow Opening Keynote Session of High Temperature Reactor Conference

MONROEVILLE, Pa., Sept. 22 /PRNewswire/ -- Credentialed media are invited to attend the opening session of the 4th International Topical Meeting on High Temperature Reactor Technology (HTR 2008), and participate in a press conference which will immediately follow. HTR 2008 will be held at the Renaissance Washington D.C. hotel, with the opening session beginning at 8:00 a.m. on Monday, September 29, 2008. The press conference will start at 10:15 a.m. in Congressional Hall B.

The opening keynote session will include the following speakers:

-- Peter B. Lyons -- Commissioner -- US Nuclear Regulatory Commission

-- Peter J. Visclosky -- Congressman, US House of Representatives

-- Linden Blue -- Chief Executive Officer, General Atomics

-- Alec Erwin -- Minister, Department of Public Enterprises, Republic of
       South Africa

-- John Grossenbacher -- Lab Director, Idaho National Laboratory

High Temperature Gas-cooled Reactors are one of the most promising reactor concepts of the Nuclear Renaissance, offering advantages such as improved safety and economics, shorter construction times, distributed generation and high temperature availability for hydrogen production and other process heat applications.

Current research and development projects are progressing in countries such as Japan, China, South Africa, France, USA, South Korea and the Russian Federation. Many other countries are participating in HTR research through the High Temperature Reactor Technology Network (HTR-TN), a network of 21 partner organizations of the European Union, and the Generation IV International Forum (GIF), which include 10 member countries as well as the INPRO project of the IAEA.

The HTR 2008 conference comes at time when both potential end users, as well as the public, are increasingly interested in advanced technologies that provide a clean, efficient means of producing coal to liquids, hydrogen, and other process heat applications in addition to the generation of electricity.

HTR 2008 is the only conference solely focused on high temperature reactor technology, and this year's agenda highlights a broad range of developments in the areas of research, licensing, experimental programs, process heat applications, and economics. The presenters at HTR 2008 represent a cross section of interested stakeholders from every corner of the world. Representatives from technology providers, utilities, government agencies, academia, research laboratories and end users will each offer a unique perspective on the challenges and opportunities that are involved with making HTR technology a part of the energy mix.

Please RSVP to Tom Meston by Friday, September 26th by calling 412-374-2629, or by e-mailing mestontm@westinghouse.com. Media credentials must be presented on-site to gain access to the opening session and press conference.
