Oregon Scientific Weather Alert Products Aid In Severe Weather Readiness

TUALATIN, Ore., Sept. 18 /PRNewswire/ -- The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) indicates an 85% probability of an above-normal hurricane season and predicts the wild weather will continue for the remainder of the year. The unpredictable weather -- from a tornado in New York City to severe flooding in the Midwest -- means everyone has to be prepared. The need for an Emergency Alert System, like Weather and Emergency Alert Monitors from Oregon Scientific, becomes increasingly important in the face of danger. The Weather and Alert Monitors can help people stay informed, providing instant data on weather emergencies and civil dangers. From the current hurricane season to the upcoming winter storms, the proper equipment can aid in preparedness year-round.

Oregon Scientific's Weather and Emergency Alert products receive all NOAA reports, and provide all available government-issued emergency advisories such as tornadoes, severe thunderstorms and floods. Additionally, civil danger warnings (such as terror attacks, biological hazards) and Amber Alerts are reflected. A 100-decibel alarm sounds in critically urgent situations. The devices also track U.S. Emergency All Hazards and Emergency Alert System (EAS) weather bulletins, warnings and forecasts; and Specific Area Message Encoding (SAME) allows broadcast receipt specific to up to six different counties.

"According to an Operation HOPE survey on American preparedness, 75% of Americans admit they are ill-prepared for a disaster," said Mike Prager, President of Oregon Scientific, US. "An Emergency Alert System, along with an established plan can provide families with more valuable time in the face of danger. Our goal at Oregon Scientific is to provide our customers with trusted products that can help during emergencies."

Portable, easy-to-use, and programmable for a specific geographic area, an Emergency Alert System is a useful tool for any household. Weather and Emergency Alert products are the direct link between the public and the National Weather Service forecasters issuing critical weather and flood warnings.

An Oregon Scientific NOAA Emergency Alert is the first line of protection when faced with an emergency. For other tips on severe weather preparedness, visit the National Weather Service at www.weather.gov/.
