NAVTEQ(R) Map GDF Format for South Korea Supports Navigation Development Growth

First Delivery of Format in Korea Enables Faster, Easier, Cost-Efficient Map Data Compilation

CHICAGO, Sept. 15 /PRNewswire/ -- NAVTEQ, a leading global provider of digital map data for location-based solutions and vehicle navigation, announced today availability of the Geographic Data File (GDF) format for the NAVTEQ Map for South Korea. GDF is an efficient, well organized standard used to collect road network features or attributes and provides rules to describe their inter-relationships. The file format is accepted around the world and is used by the leading developers of navigation systems because of its development advantages -- faster reading of the data, and optimization of file size. GDF size reduction benefits over other file formats can be as high thirty percent.

Compiling the NAVTEQ Map for South Korea in GDF can help current customers develop applications and systems for South Korea. It allows them to leverage prior investment in the format, thereby supporting a faster development time for South Korean navigation products.

"In addition to being recognized as a global standard, the file format provides an ease of use and flexibility that can lower development costs," stated Aaron Dannenbring, director of product management, NAVTEQ Asia Pacific. "Customers further benefit from the years of experience and compilation support NAVTEQ provides for the GDF format."

NAVTEQ has been providing its data in the GDF format for over sixteen years. In addition to South Korea, maps are available in countries throughout Asia Pacific, Europe, North and South America, The Middle East, and Africa.

"South Korean hardware and application developers have long-standing success exporting products using NAVTEQ GDF formatted maps for other countries," stated Patrick Suh, vice president sales, NAVTEQ South Korea. "Now customers have the opportunity to optimize that innovation for South Korean vehicle and mobile navigation."
