Eswar Prasad, Expert on Emerging Economies and Globalization, Joins Brookings

WASHINGTON, Sept. 11 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Eswar Prasad, an expert on financial globalization and emerging markets, with a specific focus on China and India, has joined the Brookings Institution as a senior fellow, Strobe Talbott announced today.

Prasad is also currently the Tolani senior professor of trade policy at Cornell University, a research associate at the National Bureau of Economic Research, and previously served as the chief of the financial studies and China divisions at the International Monetary Fund.

As an expert in Global Economy and Development at Brookings, Prasad will focus on the macroeconomics of financial globalization, monetary and exchange rate policies in emerging markets, and the specific economic policies of China and India.

"In the current global economic landscape, Eswar's research and experience will offer policy-makers and the broader community unique analysis and deep insights into the complex challenges associated with financial globalization facing the U.S. and the rising powers," said Lael Brainard, vice president and founding director of Global Economy and Development. Prasad holds a Ph.D. in economics from the University of Chicago. He has published extensively and has also edited numerous books and monographs, including on China, Hong Kong and India. His articles have appeared in top academic journals such as the American Economic Review, Brookings Papers on Economic Activity, The Economic Journal, Journal of Development Economics, Journal of Economic Perspectives, Journal of International Economics, Journal of Monetary Economics, Journal of International Economics, and the Review of Economics and Statistics. He has also contributed op-ed articles to the Financial Times, International Herald Tribune, Wall Street Journal Asia and various other newspapers. Prasad was a member of the analytical team that drafted the 2008 report of the High-Level Committee on Financial Sector Reforms set up by the Government of India.
